I'm getting nervous...in the last week:
I'm driving down the highway, when a crushed Coke can gets flipped up by the car in front and ricochets off my front bumper. Being familiar with Nissan paint
, I get home expecting a giant gash in the bumper cover.
Amazingly, all that's there is a short 1" slice, without a paint chip - so it's almost invisible.
Three days later (same highway), a flattened cardboard beer six-pack holder comes whirring out from in front of the car ahead, and skips off the hood. I look in the rear view mirror to see it go WAY up in the air then come down. Great...get back to the office, and sure enough, giant blue scrape / streak across the front of the hood that is undoubtedly ground into the crappy paint.... Nope, comes right off with some polishing compound. Not a mark left.
Then yesterday, driving at night I pop over something on the road while changing lanes - I hear thud, WHAP!! on the side of the car, then another thud. Aaaahh!! I pull over, expecting a giant dent / crease in the door. Yep, it sliced off a two inch section through the paint and into the body - but it hit exactly where the body molding curves under the car, so you can't see it unless you bend down.
Yikes - how many lives does a car have? I'm starting to get twitchy whenever I hit the highway. Maybe I should drive my wife's car for a while...

You think your Max has bad luck...
Here's what has happened to my Max in the past year:
1) At 2 weeks, the front right tire runs over a nail, which goes into the sidewall. $210 from dealer to replace since roadhazzard was not covered.
2) At 2 months, a road crew decides to post their "Do Not Park after 6am" signs on the street at around 7am. Yes, this is of course AFTER they have all 12 cars on that street towed and ticketed.
$110 towing, $60 ticket. Judge only gave me back half of that.
3) At 4 months, the right rear wheel/tire was stolen and the car placed on a stump of wood. $950 to replace--covered by insurance.
4) At 7 months, lady driving a civic slides on black ice and hits the side of my PARKED maxima. Luckily, I had just stepped out of the condo to witness this and ran in front of her car so she wouldn't leave the scene. $2000 damage--covered by stupid lady's insurance.
5) At 1 year (currently), lady falls asleep while driving through a tunnel and rear ends my Max at 30 mph. $3200 damage--covered by extremely stupid lady's insurance.
So consider yourselves lucky with your minor dings and scratches.
I can't wait to see what the next year has in store for my Maxima!

hah, wanna here my list? ok. it is not as bad as maximax2's... but still dam bad:
1.) one week after i got my car i slid on black ice and slamed into a bridge. $3,500 and two months later fixed... (pics and full story on my web page)
2.) at 4 months my rear passenger side door was bent back from hitting at pole while the door was open due to a careless circuit city empolyer.
3.) 3 $220 tires had to be replaced due to nails, screews, and rip in side wall. (happened at diffrent times of ownership.)
4.) one month ago i go into work, and 2 hours later i go on lunch only to find a nice big crack in my windsheild.
5.) i notice a new noise comming out of the trunk every week.
i am convenced that my car was previously owned by satan, and he still dwells in the car from time to time. hence the reason why i am selling it very soon (by the end of the month) and buying a nice 2001 AE/SE maxima. YAY! 5spd here i come!

Actually, my insurance has not increased at all.
Out of all those incidences, only one of them was covered by my own insurance. (the stolen rim/tire)
Everything else was paid for by the other person involved in the accident.
So I guess I'm pretty lucky in that regards.
I have a 2002 Maxima SE that is about 1 year old now.
The bumper is currently dangling off and parts have been ordered at the body shop. (as a result of the lady falling asleep and rear ending me.)
But hey, there is a silver lining...
The little scratch that was on already my bumper before the accident will be gone when my car comes back repaired.

Is it on the door guards? That happened to me, and basically I had to use polishing compound (Maguire's X) like a maniac. The dark smudges around the touch-ups eventually came off, wore away, or something...Originally posted by jessa

I use Maguire's Scratch-X, like I said, and have had good results with it. There are other good ones available, and some of the other folks will no doubt post their opinions.Originally posted by jessa
