Q: stock air intake hookup details. What is wrong with my setup.

While washing my car I noticed that my air intake is loose. One of the two "screws" that hold the front of the air intake to the front most cross member was missing, the other was way loose. (The cross member under which the radiator is installed.

This caused the whole front part of the intake, with the foam gasket, to be way-loose. This caused the joints between the air box with the filter, and the lower air box (resonator, below the battery) to be loose.

To recap, the air intake seems to have loose connections to the "resonator" below and the air box (filter) behind.

The one below doesn't worry me too much, it seems to be a simple slide over, possibly with an internal clip, connection.

The one behind, the connection from the intake to the filter worries me. There is a gasket on the filter side of the connection and a slide-over which closes or covers the actual joint. I can slide that joint all the way to the front of the car.

My question is, is that joint, the sliding thing-a-ma-bob, supposed to be just a hand-fit thing or is there supposed to be a clip, clamp, wedge, snugger-upper in there to really close the joint.

No, it's not the scoop, well ok, it's kinda the scoop.

The scopp itself is held on by one screw. It's actually some sort of shark-tooth, porcupine quill plug, but I digress.

Because the scoop is loose the junction to the lower "resonator" and more importantly the junction to the read air-box (air filter, MAF...... , smiles....) is loose. I am wondering if the connection between the scoop and the filter-box is a simple hand pressure sort of thing

Now I think I know why I think I have felt for the past few weeks that power is down, especiall at speed. Or maybe I am halucinating.

If you are referring simply to the connection between the scoop and the rest of the filter box then yes, its just a loose fit. It will slide in and out and has no real seal. I think thats what your talking about. I just tool mine off yesterday to put on another intake.

is it possible to take off the stock air scoop and disconnecting that little oxygen sensor there without the SES light showing up?

RxMan, that sounds like what I am talking bout. I think that extra scre-plug will lock it down more or less tight.

What the hell does that resonator box, below the battery, do? Is that lower entry point ideal for a CAI?

if you're talking about the little box fed by a 90 degree elbow, i think it's there to catch heavier objects flying into your scoop, like pebbles, maybe even a little rainwater.
