Edmunds seems to think so, and so does a wrecker... if anyone here has a 2001 AE and can check the little plaque on their firewall with the tranny name, please let me know what it says

Or if you know offhand/have a brochure, please let me know as well... I might pick one up as a temp replacement for my tranny

LSD started on the 2002s. I think it became available around February 2002; not sure about the date, but it became available a few months after the 2002s started showing up.

LSD DID come on the AE
It is a viscous limited slip differential, in 2002 Nissan moved to a helical lsd.

Thanks guys, wish this were of help to me if the guy at the yard weren't an anti-canuck and told me "I don't feel like shipping to you Canadians".

Stupid rotten jerk. But let's not turn this thread into a USA Vs. Canadolia one...

I will be doing my rebuild on June 25th either way, would have been nice to pick up a spare tranny for a good price.

Uh dude, what are you doing looking for a LSD in a U.S. AE when Canadian SE's have them anyway? Surely you can find an SE up there!

In its most simplistic, one is based on actual gears, one is on fluid.

Limited Slip Differential

IF you see HLSD or VLSD, those refer to the viscous and helical types.

As the name states...they 'limit' the 'slip' of the drive wheels in relation to each other.

Exactly as the names implies. A limited slip differential.

To put it simply: Leave two black tire marks on the pavement instead of one.

Only one local/in Canada, at a cost of $1000US (or $1500CAN).

The reason I was going to pick this one up was because it was selling for $600US (current exchange rate is 1.35) ... see my dilemna?

I'll just do the rebuild, thanks for the help!

YOU MEANIE!

Hehe, I think it'd be same axles either way, same VLSD. I'm not going 5-speed until I blow up my fortified tranny.

Canadian Nissan's starting in 2000 came with VLSD standard, due to weather y'all have up there. I was trying to get Nissan NA to replace mine (2nd gear auto missing) with a Canadian VLSD. I found this info out thru a dealer in Quebec and calling Nissan Canada. Nissan NA said ethically they could not up-grade me ... thanks alot !!

Re: Re: oh canada
There's lots of older ones, but look at it this way : only SE's have VLSD on 4th and 5th gens (not sure when it began on 4th gens). 2002/2003 however only has the helical LSD on 6-speeds, no automatic LSD.

So basically there's only 2 years I can get an LSD from - 2000 and 2001, and only off SE's. Sadly, there are only a few autos lying around from those two years, and only 1 of them is an LSD at the moment (and ironically it's out of an I30).

They're not much more popular than in the USA if you think about it, since the US had it for 1 year in the AE.....
