What is this problem likely to be...?

First of all my maxima rocks. I've put 10k miles on it (2000 I bought in November with 37k on it) but let's get to the question.

I actually notice this same problem on my 93 sentra sometimes as well. Basically when I'm accelerating - let's say in 5th where it's easiest to say - there is a certain weak point in the RPM range quite noticeable. Let's say I steadily accelerate from 2k to 3.5k. At, say, 2400 RPM to perhaps 2600 RPM there is a distinct lack of power. So basically I'll give it good throttle and I'll smoothly accelerate to 2400 rpm and then for the next 200 rpm it will accelerate much slower, and then pick up against at 2600.

What sort of problem is this likely to be and what's the easiest way to go about fixing it...? It doesn't bother me much but I'd like to know what it is.

Thanks!
