Front Window Auto Down with Remote?
The owner's manual on my '03 SE says to hold down the unlock button on my remote for 3 seconds to lower the front driver and passenger windows. When I do this they lower about 2" and then stop. If I press unlock again for 3 seconds they will go down the rest of the way.
Is this the way it is supposed to work? From the wording in the manual it sounds like they are supposed to go down completely. I don't think it's a reception problem because I've tried it standing only a couple feet from the car.

Actually, this is entirely normal. It was discussed before and they all do this. If you let it stay for an hour or longer, that's what happens. The windows only go down about those 2", then u can press it again and have it go down all the way. If you shutdown the car and do it within the hour, they go down fully. It's not an interference in the signal because it does the same thing even if you are right there in front of the car. Give it an hour or so, come stand right by the hood and it'll only drop the windws 2".
Hope that helps.

>>>>>>>>>>EDIT:
You sir are the winner! That's EXACTLY what it does. After leaving my car in the parking garage for a few hours, the windows only went down 2" on first button hold. After only five minutes though, they went down all the way on first hold. And thanks, this is a mildly obnoxious habit of my car that I now understand.

Click the remote once and hold it, windows go down a couple of inches. Click the remote twice(like you are unlocking all doors) and hold it, windows go down all the way.

Yeah, I've tried the "press twice and hold" method and got the "sometimes" working response. Maybe my "sometimes" is related to this sit for an hour thing. I'll have to try the various permutations of under and over and hour plus one and two button presses. As someone else mentioned I don't think it is a reception problem since it does it even when I'm standing beside the car and the windows always go down the exact same amount. If it was a reception problem I would assume the down distance would be random.
Anyone here ever heard of any reason why an hour would make a difference or is it some inscrutable Zen Japanese logic that the Occidental (Or Celtic in my case) mind is unable to fathom?

My aunt picked up a G35 sedan and she's had it for about a year. She's so paranoid about driving it so it has less than 5000 miles on it! I stopped by to show her my new Maxima and showed her the remote window feature. She thought it was awesome. I told her to get the keys and sure enough she even has the same remote.
I held down the button and not only did hers go down all the way - it lowers all four windows on the G35!
I wish you could hold down the lock button and they would go up. Can't complain tho - it's nice to air the car out when it's been sitting in the sun.

I just wish I could make them go UP remotely. Making them go down is nice, but Nissan should have given the option to sliding them back up as well.

that would be sweet. my windows do the same thing, sometimes they go down all the way the 1st time, sometimes they dont.

Seems like the sitting for the hour thing is the key. I've experimented since my first post and it does look like after a while (I haven't pinned it down to exactly an hour but seems about that) when you press and hold the remote it only goes down 2". A 2nd 3 second unlock hold is required to drop them the rest of the way. In response to one post, unlocking (one push) followed by press and hold does not drop them all the way after the hour waiting period.
I read in another thread about auto headlight sensitivity settings that there are computer settings that the dealer can change for things like the headlights and these locks. Noted that they can even be changed to lower all four windows. Has anyone heard of this? What else can you adjust? (Auto door locking - lock driver or passenger and all lock, like my '92 would ge great). Is there anything on this in the official service manual. I'm still trying to pick up one of these manuals on CD from ebay but keep getting overbid at the last minute.
Some of the other reported behavior on this thread may be related to changed computer settings.

Even though the windows have a safety feature to make sure they don't crush fingers when you use the auto up feature, the lawyers were probably worried about the remote possibilty that you would auto up the windows with the remote without you being in line of site of the car while someone was holding a baby's head in the window, the saftey feature failing, and the windows crushing the little rugrat's head (or anybody else's body part).

Probably not stupid Nissan but probably the same PITA lawyers that make you press the enter button every time the nav system fires up.

It's in the driver's door, not the ignition. With the windows down, put the key in the door, turn to the left and hold - windows go up.

ohh. ive known that trick. but its not really a trick because it takes more time to put the key in than to just click window up on the door. my friends hyundai has a feature that even if the key is out he can roll his windows up with the door buttons. now why doesnt my maxima have this?

Using the key in the door to raise the windows is easier (if you've forgotton to close the windows or later want to raise them) than opening the door, putting the key in the ignition, turning, then using the door buttons to raise the windows.
Still, I'd love to be able to do it with the remote as I'm walking away.

The Maxima does this (at least my '03). When you remove the key from the ignition power remains to the windows and sunroof for up to 45 seconds or until you open the door.

Its just silly. My 98 Would just go down until I decided to let go. 1-2 inches ( timing is everything ) or all the way down, first try. Sitting, not sitting. Locked , unlocked. OK, guess I'll just have to get used to it. What is harder to get used to is the fact that the Sunroof doesn't always go back first try. I have to " wait " and try again
