Honest Nissan Service in Northern NJ

Anyone have any recommendations or positive experiences with any Northern NJ Nissan Dealership service stations? The two that I have dealt with in my area gave me poor service and overcharged. Thats before I learned basic maintainance and joined the Max forum. Now I have a SES light and code P0420 and traced it to my cat converter. It probably needs to replaced or have the ECU reprogrammed. I have only 63k miles on the 2000 Max and the repairs should be covered under the Federal emissions warranty 8yrs/80,000 mi. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Had the same problem at 66k mi. Called Nissan Consumer Affairs the day before to confirm warranty coverage. It's a simple update/reprogram to correct the software bug. I think there's a service bulletin addressing this problem posted somewhere in the forum. Get ready for some pressure to get other work done. Good luck.

Call Ray at Bergenfield Nissan (201) 385-2002. He has been there for many years. On the down-low...I always grease him a few bucks. It's worth it in the long run.

Warnock Nissan (semi-long)

Christmas time, 2000... 2 months after purchasing a used 2000 GXE (I knew something was gonna be wrong) my car wouldn't start. I was at my gf's house in Morristown and it was towed to Warnock, and it was a blessing. They found the harness for the FI sensor was frayed, causing a complete engine shutoff, which I had only preivously experienced on the highway @ 65mph. This was also a week after Bay Ridge Nissan found nothing wrong. BC of this, Warnock had to pull some strings to get it paid for by warranty, but they did, and I made it home for Christmas.

What a great story man. I love it when everyone makes it home in time for Christmas.

Any other info on this? I have a 99, but I understand they share some parts with the 2000 such as ECU. I got the same code at around 45,000 miles and they just replaced my cat. I first went to Flemington Nissan, and they tried to charge me for it. But my regular mechanic told me about the 8yr/80,000 mile thing, and I had to call Nissan Customer Affairs to get the dealership to replace it for free.

NJ Nissan Dealers

I live in Western Essex County and I (tried) to use Nissan 46 for warranty work (code went off) for my 2K Nissan with 30K miles and they tried to grease me for a $340 tune-up (30K service) They had an attitude and were very unpleasant

Maybe we should start a thread for Maxima stories with happy endings, since every other thread depresses me on this site.

Someone else on the .ORG recommended Jerry at Hillside Nissan to me for the 2K2 ECU update. I just brought my car in last week and he was excellent! No arguing - he knew all about the TSB and the MAF is on order . . . Also, my Bose HU is cutting out again on the driver's side. He didn't argue about that one either - the new HU is also on order! Hope this helps.

Re: Honest Nissan Service in Northern NJ

I decided to go local to Kia/Nissan world of Denville. They did a great job of reprogramming my ECU to get rid of the P0420 code that it threw. I tried to clear it multiple times with my OBD II but it just came back the same day. I thought it had to do with my cat converter to thats why I brought it in the shop. They fixed the code (grand total $190)but.... they also tried to sell me the old 60k service ($400) and the throttle body cleaning ($130). I had to happily say sorry because I did those easy things myself and saved the cash. The salesperson didn't sound happy. HE HE!! Anyway I saw that there was a thread about the ECU reprogram being covered under a FEDERAL Emissions warranty 8yrs/80k miles. So I called Nissan1 and they said they'll contact me when they call Denville Nissan/Kia. Thanks for all the posts. MAX runs real smooth.

I'd recommend O'Brian Nissan in Hawthorne...seem very reputable and great service guy there. Rt 46 is an absolute rip off joint went once they told me at 15k I needed new brake pads now at 42k on same pads O'brian said they are still fine.
Good luck

I've been using Obrien Nissan in Hawthorne, NJ. I was using Nissan 46 where I bought the car, service sucked. I recommend Obrien Nissan service, they are honest, very friendly and work around your schedule when you need to schedule an appointment. Plus, free copy of the Record and coffee!! # is 973-427-3888, ask for Guy.
