court date tomorrow
well, tomorrow i have to go to court because i got pulled over in december for having blue lights in my clear rear corners and for having blue front parking lights/turn signals...any good strategies for arguing these tickets? i have never been to court for anything before...i'm planning on wearing a collared shirt top button unbuttoned and khaki's...anyone know how long this process should take? i was really nice to the cop that pulled me over (but the @$$hole gave me a ticket anyways) so he said that when i go to court i should just say i wasn't aware of the law...i took pics of my old lights and my stock lights to show that i "changed" them...give me some good strategies and how long should this take? anyone know how much the ticket should cost? i'm in arizona
Even though I've never been to traffic court I hear that it's really quick. I do suggest that you say that you weren't aware of the laws and that you have replaced the original bulbs. And taking your pictures to prove it is also helpfull. Hopefully the police officer that issued you the ticket doesn't show up. Because if he doesn't show up they will probably throw the ticket out. So I wish you luck and let us know what happens.
I am not a lawyer but ignorance of the law is nto an excuse.
You can try reducing the penalty with the procecutor but pleading guilty... it makes his record look good by getting more convictions in a day. We do that here with speeding tickets... e.g. I was tagged at +50mph, instead of fighting it and possibly loosing the procecutor will take a guilty plea for +30mph.

Interesting . . .
I received a ticket not that long ago for not having a front license plate. Per the instructions on the ticket, I reinstalled the front license plate and took my vehicle to a local police station. An officer verified that the front plate was installed and signed off on the ticket. Then I mailed the ticket and the fee . . . in this case $10.00 . . . to the governing jurisdiction.
Around here they call that a "fix-it" ticket. Perhaps they don't issue fix-it in certain jurisdictions. And I'm also not sure if a fix-it ticket would apply to aftermarket parts that are installed in violation of local or state statutes.

Re: Interesting . . .
We have those here too, we call them 48 hours or 72 hours. i.e. you have 2 or 3 days to fix the problem. We get them for mufflers, lights, window tints, bald tires.... Though I have never seen an 'administration fee' associated to them.
This type of ticket is very discretionary, **** off the cop and you will find your car on a flatbed going to an impound yard where you have to get it out of hock and to a garage (without driving it!) and fix it then get it inspected (at a cost) by the a government inspection garage.

well bert, you should have argued that speeding ticket...you could have walked away w/ 10 or under...or maybe even no ticket at all...if you were good w/ talking to the cop you could have also gotten it reduced if not taken away completely
so i went down to court and expected to talk to a judge...but i went in there, took a number, and went upto a window w/ a normal government employee (no judge or anything)...she got my file, looked it over, asked if i had proof that i had changed the bulbs (i showed her all the pictures i had taken) she took away the fine completely and kept the pictures for the record...so no money out of my pocket, just an hour out of my day trying to find the court
