Variable Intake on an Auto??

I've heard many people saying they can feel a slight pull on thier 2k2+ Max when reving over 4k RPM and it's called variable intake. I tried it couple times on my 2k2 auto SE but could feel anything, the acceleration was linear all the way to ~6K rpm in each gear. Is the pulling back feeling something you can only feel on a stick because I felt nothing on my auto?? BTW, my auto won't shift at redline when leave in "D", is this normal? Thanx in adv.

The reason the acceleration is linear is because of the VI, on a 4th gen for example the power sort of drops off around 5-6krpm (I forget exactly) It isn't something you are going to feel like nitrous or a turbo spooling.
