Synthetic Oil??

Just bought a 03 Maxima two months ago and I was wondering how long to wait before I made the switch.

About 8,000 to 10,000, to let the engine seals and what not to seal properly.

Lets not have this discussion again, it hasn't been proven that you need 10K on the max before switching to syn. I've had syn in mine since 500 miles and it's all fine and dandy.

I waited about 1200K on mines before I switched to synthetic.. And it's about about 55K since then and still using synthetic

I switched at the first oil change as well. No problems here either.

Actually it has been proven that VQs who switch their vehicles early (less than 3k) have had elevated levels of silicon and other wear metals, a possible sign of insufficient engine break-in. srbarnes4ever's oil anlayses in my oil spreadsheet immediately come to mind. There are a couple of other members with similar results as well.

Unfortunately, no one has analyzed a VQ from birth showing how a dino vs. synthetic 3k change intervals for the first 10k differ......

VQ "break-in":

Castrol GTX:

Use/change at 500 miles, 1k, 4k, 7k

At 10k, go with a synthetic.

At least use the 15208-9E000 oil filter at each oil change.
