I want to wire my rear lights to a switch. That way I can flip a switch and the taillights, brakelights, licsense plate light, and spoiler light will all be disabled.

It can be done with relays, but I dunno why you would want to. If you aren't "electrical" then you won't be able to do it yourself.

You can, but if you get caught, its illegal and you WILL get in serious trouble.

yes but i think he will get in ALOT more trouble for this. mutliple citations (maybe one for each light not working). then citations for whatever he is doing that gives him the need to do this (speeding, wreckless driving, evading arrest?). im thinking if he gets caught he might just get taken in.

Back in the day I had this done to my 91 Accord. A good friend of mine wired it for me. As I can recall it was a whole bunch of relays that were triggered by a switch. In my car it would blackout the whole rear end of the car. In my friends case (on his Eclipse) he had another switch that would blackout interior lights as well.

Why did I do it? well I could come up with a bunch of BS to justify the reason but honestly I truly thought it would help me run from a cop (no drug deals here people, just to avoid a speeding ticket). I did manage to escape from a cop (speeding ticket) but the light-blackout system didnt help since it was during the day! Needless to say that was pure luck and nothing more and I have never attempted to pull such a stupid stunt ever again in my life! and nor will I ever think about doing so again! (I think of it as Quitting while I am ahead )

I always wanted something that would cover my license plate with the flip of a switch to avoid photo radar. You have 3 full seconds to react after they take the picture of your face before they snap the one of your rear license plate. I could never get anything engineered though.

Yes it would.. When you shut your lights off (I mean all the lights off) and just hold your high beam switch back the tails go out. Then you have just your high and low beams on, everything else is off

sorry dude not meaning to argue with you at all... but when you step on the brakes your brake lights will still light up. the headlights only control the secondary/marker lights, the primary brake lights are not controlled by the headlight switch and is only controlled by the brake switch and thus will still light up. Unless you use the hand brakes. (In some cars even the hand-brake is rigged to the brake lights so the brake lights light-up with the hand brake application with the keys on. When no key is in the ignition they dont.)

it would be a huge pain but u would need to tap into all of the red wires to all the lights and run them back to a switch and run new wires to the red wires from the switch to the lights.

PAIN IN THE @ss but it is possible

Yeah, that is the "pain n the a$$ method." It would be much easier to use a bank of relays and switch the grounds on the rear lights. Minimal voltage drop issues this way.

PAIN IN THE @ss? I agree...

I am not an electronic expert here (not even close) but for example, couldnt you just install relay(s) on the ground connection to all of the tail lamps and just trigger the relay to connect/disconnect the ground connection, by controlling the relay via a switch inside the car?

Or if controlling the ground connection is not possible then couldnt you just put a relay on every positive connection to the lamps and use one switch to trigger all of the relays on/off? (dont have to wire each and everyone of the positive wires to the switch) just ONE wire that triggers all of the relays?

I am probably way over my head here... but just a thought

Yep, it would work just fine. Even easier if they all share the same ground (which I doubt is the case.) Either way I'm sure there will be less grounds than positives.

I believe there is a plate cover out there that makes it so it can only be read directly from the back. Any other angle and it's blurred.

Yeah, and I always wanted a tailpipe that spits out smoke and/or oil, rims with retractable knives, and fenders with pop-out rockets launchers. Oh, and all in an Aston Martin DB5.

if any one has seen "the transporter", i want a bmw like that. he had to enter a code to start it and he could push a button and the plate would flip over to another plate. very cool, IN A MOVIE!!!

I can see it now, forget to flip the switch again, get hit from the rear, totals your car and you get to be responsible because your car has faulty equipment.

He'll also need a surface to air missile system installed on the roof to shoot down the police helicopter who can track him in spite of his tail lights being out.

You can always down shift If I am doing something realy dumb and need to kill my tails (liscense plate is the only thing I want to hide) I usualy won't be hitting the brakes any time soon, so I just kill the lights and use just my high beam system.
