Hood flutter
Hood flutter
I took my '03 Max in to have them adjust the hood because I can see it flutter when I drive it at freeway speeds. I got the usual "this is normal and there's nothing we can do about it" response from Nissan. Is there anything they can do?
Fu@k I hate dealing with idiots all the time. Why can't they just friggin' fix the damn thing.

I traded in my '02 Max GLE for an '03 Max SE. The 02 hood did not flutter or vibrate at speed but the 03 hood did at least on the driver side. I had my service mgr at Mossy inspect the hood. He went on to say that this is normal too for an 03. I reminded him that I had an 02 Max before and that the hood did not flutter. So now I am scheduled to meet with one of Nissan's engineers next week to discuss this specific problem and other minor problems I have with the 03 Max.
BTW, I did raise the hood rubber stops up by 1/4" and this solved most of the problem. The rubber stops are located inside the engine bay at both front corners. With the hood closed, I had to push/mold down the hood on the driver side so that the gap between the hood and the fender was not so obvious. Mission accomplished.

My 03 GLE hood also fluttered at speeds above 75 mph, when new. Now that it is 7 months old and I've clocked in 3k miles, I don't notice the flutter anymore. But I sometimes still feel the slight hesitation when accelerating from a full stop - just a bit annoying.

You can also order "headlight packs" that came on the '00/'01s which are nothing more than rubber gaskets which stick to the top of the headlights and get rid of the gap between the light and the hood. This lessens the amount of air getting under the hood and reduces lift--worked for me. The rubber pieces already have adhesive on them BTW.
