So who do you guys like in this matchup VQ-power or V-tec. I know the Max has better low-end but I also know the V-tec really moves on the higher end. I ****in hate V-tec's

we enjoy the matchup because the two cars are similarly powered, and are aimed at the same buyer group. both have pretty much similar performance specs as well. i love my VQ, but i dont hate vtecs. grow up man.Originally posted by FlexMAX

It's a pity that search is off for most people, because this is about the fifty BILLIONTH time this question has been asked. But, since you can't search:Originally posted by FlexMAX

Driver's race, period. Same driver in both, Max should win 0-60 because of torque. But, if the TL-S gets a little better launch, it could easily win.
Past 60, the TL-S probably starts catching up.

def does because my freind has a vtec contriller in his 99 tl and we raced the other day a i jumped in front him by almost a car lenthg and every time vtec kicked in he caught up a little more.. he has his vtec at 3500 rpms....that was a week ago....on friday he dyno tuned it and has vtec kick in at 3100rpm and is now at 223.4 hp at the wheels with 228 torque...i am going ot buy the safc contorller for my 2001 se and see wat it does....

2K3 Max vs 2K3 TL-S: Too close to call. Originally posted by FlexMAX

BTW, VTEC is awesome!! Especially, with the dual stage w/lift setup (DOHC only). Ex: A stock Integra Type R (current model) is packing only 7hp less than the stock USDM WRX (220hp vs 227hp: both with 2.0L 4 cyl), with the WRX being BOOSTED.
Honda USA already created a 6G Accord V6 coupe called the AC-R and coaxed 300hp from the stock J30A1 motor. (normally aspirated)
I havent seen ANY other automaker have as much success as Honda when it comes to variable valve timing. Worse part (for Honda's competitors, that is) is that Honda is holding back.
Peace
The 2003 Max has 255hp/246tq.
How can you say you hate VTEC, when the godamn VQ35 uses variable valve timing??
A automatic 02 Max vs. a 01+ TL-S is a drivers race. The Max should get a little jump off the line, but the TL should start to pull after it goes into 3rd gear. After 100mph the TL would probably be ahead and be inching.
An even better race is a 6 speed Max vs. a 6 speed CL Type-S. Both are fwd, have LSD, both are nearly identical hp wise, but again the max holds the tq advantage. Again, it's all in the launch.

Another fact to look at is that the TLs has a 5 spd tranny with smaller gear ratios than a 4 spd auto maxima....Originally posted by jtkz13

Hey listen that's my opinion, you don't have to like it.

Nissan's Hp #'s are all screwed up. The actual #'s for the 3.5 are closer to 240hp but 270 torque, obviously at the flywheel.Originally posted by kdkilbo2003

How is Honda holding back? Why would they hold back and let their competitors step all over them? That doesn't make business sense.Originally posted by F23A4

Toyota's VVTL-I engine is up to par with Honda's vtec, if not better. BMW's valve timing (Double Vanos i think it's called) is actually better than any of those guys because it applies valve timing on both Intake and Exhaust sides, where Honda and Toyota applies it to the intake sides only... Don't get me wrong i don't hate honda, i just hate the fact that they are just so..... boring when it comes to performance.
Toyota and Nissan MOST OF ALL has proven that they can make true world class leading performance engines, Mazda i guess has the rotary, but what has Honda shown? I'm still waiting for that.
