Radar wiring question???
Radar wiring question???
I have one of those Bel built in radar detectors and I need to know where I can tap in for "Key on" power not "constant power". Maybe someone has one of these and remebers where they tapped into? I don't want to tap into anything I shouldn't. I have a light tester, just don't know what wires are important and which aren't as important. I put one in my 91 300zx and it was no problem, tapped right into the clock. 2003 Maxima is much harder. Any ideas??????
Just tap into the fuse box. The ownwers manual should tell you which fuse powers accessories only while the car is on.
For my Bel 985 I mounted it above the rearview mirror, so I tapped into the wires for the auto-dim mirror that are located behind the upper console/maplight.
I figure for the model that has the separately mounted sensors and controller, you'd want a power source closer to the dash - the fuses are probably the best bet.
Good luck....

I just installed my Bel 980 on my 2003 SE. Take off the 2 screws holding the sunglass holder. Then cut some electrical tape off of the existing auto dim mirror wires. One is black, the other is black with a red strip (this is the positive). Tap postive wire, and for negative, there is a bolt that is literally 3" away from the wires you can use. Very easy, and works with the ignition. Now if anyone can tell me how to get rid of the annoying Bel 980 startup sequence, that be great.
You don't have a manual for the 980?
Here's a link for the manual:
Clicky!
Looks like after it's powered on, you press power again and it'll scroll through some settings - the one you want is Q-START for quick start. It'll just turn right on and go to the mode you had selected when it turned off.
My 985 made the same horrific racket until I did this too.
I think Pearltt has the Vector LR Remote that has the sensors and control panel mounted separately. The display doesn't have to be mounted anywhere near the windshield. Most places I've seen them is right on top of the steering column.

I tapped into the clock on the center of the dash on my 2000 max. The center clock comes out quite easily. Just pull up and it pops right out. If you look on the back of the clock, it even tells you what wire does what.
