Questions about dropping a car.

OK, so I see a group deal come up on the GD forums for Teins @ 160, shipped, and I finally get a tingle in my head about dropping my car before I do any other mods. It looks better, it handles better - why not do it before engine mods or sway bars?

So now, I have questions for the masses(I apologize up front for not being able to use the search engine, and for not looking up the info on different threads - I am short on time, as I am packing). So, on with the questions:

1. I said the car handles better, but am not 100% sure that this is true. Is it?

2. Will I definitely need new shocks, or could I use the stock ones with the Teins? I heard that someone used Maxspeeds on stock shocks, and it was fine for quite a long time, so I'm wondering how important/critical it is to get new shocks for 1)better handling, 2)better feel of the road(i.e. would the ride be better with stock shocks, or something else).

3. If you do highly recommend new shocks, then which ones are good when coupled with the Teins? I have heard things about Toks and KYB-GR2's, but I need someone to refresh my memory and maybe fill me in on the intricacies of the 2 aforementioned brands, as well as maybe other brands to consider.

4. Not a question, but: I want a low drop, along with as less deviation from the SE suspension feel (in terms of harshness) as possible - I do not want a bone jarring ride. Is Teins+ X shocks for me?

Thanks much.

I dropped a 5th gen with Teins and Tokico. The ride was excellent, very smooth much to my suprise. The trick is you need to cut at least 2/3rds off the bump stops to get back suspension travel. The stock bump stops are huge and if you don't cut them, with the Tein drop, you'll be riding on rubber bumpers, not your springs.

Handling is a bit better from the lower center of gravity.

Tokico Blues are nice and soft. (smooth ride)
KYB GR2's are very firm. (hard ride with great handling)

Re: Questions about dropping a car.

1. Car handles 100% better with lower center of gravity.

2. You dont need new shocks, but it's highly recommended.

3. KYB GR-2 is what I bought for my Max.

4. Yes.

Thanks guys.

Also, where is a good place to order the KYB's, if I decide to go with them?

Is there a problem with going with the stock struts until they are shot and then switching to some aftermarket struts?

You have to pay the installation costs 2 times. Also, people have said with the Teins that you will get a bouncy rough ride with stock shocks...they don't have enough dampening.
