Dead MAF sensor

4k miles with my Frankencar on my 2001 AE and my MAF sensor is dead. Dealership is charging 290 to fix it. I guess I was hoping I'd avoid this whole MAF Maxima issue. You guys think this was just crap luck that it lasted such a short time, or should I just expect more of the same?

dont pay the dealer. call up dave b (number in faq), and get the sensor for around a 100 i think and install it yourself. all you do disconnect the old with 1 tab and two security hex and install the new one. ive had my intake setup for a little over a year and no problems yet.

My MAF went out on my '01 with a stock intake at 40k miles.

Save yourself another $100 and spray it with brake cleaner and use a q-tip. It cleans the oil off. Then reset the computer.

that will help if its having trouble reading but if its shorted out then its not coming back. ive cleaned mine with electronic parts cleaner since its not as harsh as brake or intake cleaner and its safe for the plastic housing.

Dont buy the MAF from the dealer...you can get one at a junkyard for around $50 and the install takes about 10 min.

Nope, regular warantee. I talked to the manager at the dealership so he called into somewhere and they said that the MAF should be covered till 70k so they will replace it for free. Again, make sure you have your stock air box back on.

Much appreciated, but I think I'm all set, I picked one up and replaced it and so far so good. I do think that I'll be keeping a can of spray cleaned and some q-tips in the trunk for now on though

thanks to everybody for their input
