Noise from suspension/Did I get Ripped?

I've been hearing this noise coming from the left front suspension when I turn the wheel full lock. I had a mechanic go on a ride with me and hear it and described it as a "sharp metallic" sound which I described as a "binding metallic" sound. I made an appoitment to bring it in and they said that the only problem that they could find is that a steering stop was missing. They charged me $35 for a half hour of diagnositic and want $36.14 for parts & labor for a new steering stop.

Questions are:
1.) Is this the correct diagnosis/has anyone else experienced this?

2.) Can they charge me for this even though I have a 5yr/50,000 mile extended warranty? They claim it falls under wear items but I question whether or not that I should be billed. Thanks for the input.

Hard to say, I believe it depends the warranty contract, I'm sure they slipped enough stipulations in there to get out of paying just about anything they dont feel like paying. I have seen my best friend getting hit with $900 charge to rebuild the motor of his POS malibu 4 cyl even though he had an extended warranty.
I guess the first question is, did it fix the problem, if so let it go, you spent 71.14 which isn't too bad when it comes to dealing with dealership service departments. If it really bothers you, call your warranty company and complain, but since its under $100 I'd personally just let it be.

just my 2 cents

I understand the cost isn't too high, but my problem is paying the "diagnostic" fee. My warranty should cover anything like that and if they find something then I should pay for it. I'm just a little upset that they charged me and I didn't sign for anything saying they'd charge me.

I would question the Service Manager as this falls into "parts that were not installed on your car at the factory".

I went to my dealer for the fuel filler tube splash guard and claimed missing equipment, they replaced it under warranty. You should not have to pay for missing parts...unless they can prove the part was there but tore/ripped off.

I'll ask when I go in when the parts get in. Thanks for the advice. I just don't like to get taken advantage of. BUT, my biggest concern is if they are missing the actual problem. Let's keep the fingers crossed.
