I've had this since it was new. Sounds like the hard plastic panels contracting or expanding, sometimes triggered when going over road imperfections, sometimes for no reason at all, usually happens more in extremes of cold or hot weather. Mentioned it to dealer who "couldn't re-create the problem".

Does anyone know how to remove the plastic panels above or below the radio. I want to get in there to see if I can alleviate this somehow. Detailed instructions would be appreciated.

Before you go crazy taking your car apart, check out if the noise is coming from the sunroof control panel area. I had a similar clicking that sounded like it was coming from the radio are and it turned out to be that.

My sunglasses rattle like crap, and it sounds like it's coming from the radio. You may want to check that too.

It's probably the air vents above the radio. Mine creak and pop after it's hot and the a/c gets turned on. Temp changes really make it happen. Seems to be a cheap piece.

The sunglasses was also happening to me.

Umm, you can't GET a sunroof on a 2K2 GXE. It's not even an option.

You're right, there is no sunroof. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the plastic panels around the radio, because when I lightly push on them, they make the same clicking sound.

There has to be a proper way of removing the plastic panels and/or radio. Anyone in the know about that or where I could get the info?

Single sides foam with the other side sticky will fix that.
