My 2k2 Vs 6 th Gen

So, I finally got a chance at racing one of these Love Boats...

He rolled up on my bumper real close....we were doing about 65 mph in traffic at 6 am, and then he hit right, I go left, clearing the traffic, and we gun it. We took it all the way to 130 where my limiter kicks in..... ... He got . I pulled about 1 and a half cars on him. I have no idea if it was a stick or auto, but it was an SE . It's embarrasing to look at that thing , and know its a Max. For the 35k that guy paid, I would take that lumpof cash to Infinity for my G35 !
BTW, he did a ricer fly by on me....*yawn*

Nice kill, prolly went back to the dealer "wtf, mine has more HP, there's something wrong, now fix it". BTW, do you have a GLE?.. just wondering about the limiter thing.

Maybe he accidently hit the rev limiter in 4th gear? He either mispoke or misunderstood why hit fuel was cut.

btw..... does the 2003 GLE have a limiter? My car has HR rubber I think. If so, can it be removed(ECU reprogrammed) if VR or WR rubber is installed?

If im not mistaken auto 5th gen (2K2/2K3 at least) are limited at 130mph, 6spd are limited at 142mph. I could be wrong?? Great Kill Kloogy.......god are those 6th gens the ugliest things you have ever seen? Especially the front end..nasty looking. Its a shame the thing has a maxima emblem on it. I figured the 10hp wouldnt be enough to counter 200+ extra lbs.......

I've gone over 130 on my 2k2 Auto. So not sure if Kloogy got a fuel cut or was limited in some way by something (wind resistance perhaps?).

Anyway, as for Ricer fly-by's... basically it's when the person you race with (or you even) "flies by" the winner after the race is over.

Though the way i see it, they probably didn't notice the winner already slowed down and was still gunning it.

When you race someone, beat them, slow down, and they fly past you as if to show that THEY won. I guess that's how you can define it.

I think the GLE/GXE are governed, but the SE is drag limited.

Damn that is pretty fast going 130mph I always get scared when I go over 120 or so. Nice kill though.

I think 2004 Max should be more stable at those speeds. I always feel uncomfortable driving fast in my car, that stupid rear beam really causes the car to be unstable.

Actually, IIRC a rear beam would help make your car more stable in high speeds as long as it's on smooth roads as compared to an independent set-up.

That is the problem. Where do you find smooth roads?? I just drove my friends GTI the other week for a long trip on the highway, and that car just drives so nice at high speeds. Doesn't pitch side to side, like every Max that owned with rear beam do.

Maxima's suspension is really poorly designed. To compare to similar size cars, I drove my friend's TL-S on the highway and it just a dream to drive. What a nice control and feel.

I hope that 2004 Max feels much better.

I've gone over 130 in my 2k3 SE auto too (jjs, it was local but under VERY specific circumstances ). And I know my speedo is accurate, 'cause I've checked it with GPS.

It's odd that some people with auto SE's swear they hit a speed limiter, and some of us haven't...I've always wondered if this is a Cali-spec thing, or date of ECU, or...?

I guess i've been lucky... though Houston roads are bad. At least highways are pretty good (esp. with I10 just recently re-asphalted (sp?)).

As far as rear beams go, the Max is pretty well designed compared to other set-ups. Unfortunately we Max enthusiasts just keeps going beyond the limits of its design

How specific? j/k

Ditto on the speed limiter, it's probably spec rather than date of build. I've got one of the first 2k2's that came out. (July build IIRC).

Quick question... How do you tell if your car is CA spec?

TIA.

IIRC, the Fed/Cali diff ended in 2000. Since then all have been 'Cali' spec.

You've got a lot of those don't you?

About getting to the 100's. It's easy to reach that speed just trying to pass someone on the highway. Power is abundant and application is pretty smooth that one wouldn't know they're way past the legal limits unless they look at the speedo.

Nice Kill kloogy.
I haven't gotten my 2k2 over 100 yet, but my '90 didn't feel very safe at 120.

Nice kill Kloogy. I beat an 04 in my 99 a couple of weeks ago. I didn't expect to win. I don't think the guy was comfortable with the car yet.

Hi, I have pretty much same set-up as you and my car feels pretty tight. I haven't noticed any unstableness yet. Planning to get a RSB just for the kicks and hope of a better handling.

kloogy,

I got your letter today. I'll try to turn it around for you on Monday.

My AE manual would go past 130, not sure by how much I gave it up at less than 135.

My 04 will run circles around my former AE, both are pure stock. The sphincter dyno says that the 04 is faster from 0 to 4th gear than the 03s that I tested. Unfortunately the sphincter dyno is known to be a liar.

For what it's worth... The sphincter dyno also observed differences between some of the 04s I drove. I only drove one automatic, it was an SL, but I felt like some of the 04 manuals (I drove 5 at two dealerships,) were faster than others. I don't have a logical explanation for this. But I made the same observation when I was shopping for the 01. I know the AE was alleged to have 5 more hp but I thought it was more significant than that. In fact I was very disappointed after I got the AE back from having the low speed fuel cut off TSB. It killed the performance. I subsequently had the timing advanced to 17 btdc which helped but it was never the same after the TSB.

If you change your mind the 04s are available in the Dallas market for substantially less than 35k. I don't know that I will ever learn to love the chastity belt grille but it doesn't offend me as much as it did at first. Dito for the fuzzy door panels and instrument cluster. Other than those items I'm completely satisfied with mine so far. But you know, I thought the 5th gen was butt ugly too when I first saw them. It would be interesting to go back and read posts in the 4th gen forum from c1999 and read what was said about the all new 5th gen.

I dunno this one has been out for few months now and it still isnt catching on to well in general. By this time amount of time in the 5th gens production I was seeing more of them on the road than the 6th gen. Some 6th gens here in Lewisville(Bankston) have been on the lot for 2 months and my sales guy says people look and never get back with him.
