How do you figure out the color code of a car?

I've been shopping for a Maxima and I have found a 2000 SE. The color is described as silver but I think I see a brown tint to it. Is there a way to get the color code off of the VIN or do you have to look at the code printed on the car? How do I decipher which color the code represents?

Open the hood and look for a metal plate on the firewall on the drivers side. My plate says KT3. Once you have that code, then you can be sure of the color of the car.

I would be careful, if your ordering the Glacier Pearl for a 2k2. That's my paint code...ordered from the dealer and it comes out gray. I think there should be something more for the pearl...but it doesn't match at all.

There is a way to "de-code" it from the VIN but I don't know the process.

You are missing the basecoat. The glacier pearl is a tricoat. Go to any auto paint store and they will give you the base coat for $10 or so.

Now that link is dead too. Perhaps Nissan is getting out of the paint business.
