OBDII Scanner?
OBDII Scanner?
Anyone have their own diagnostic scanner to check trouble codes themselves? What is a good brand? JCWhitney carries them!

I use this on my Talon

You can read out and reset DTCs, plus you can watch and log any variable in real time for tuning. It's very cool, you can watch 02, timing, RPM, TPS. You can tell if you're getting knock (timing will pull).
Cheaper than the plain'ol code readers, but you need a laptop.
They also have this stuff available for Palm Pilots but I've never used one.
I've never tried this scanner on my '03 max but it *should* work. You can e-mail the owner there and ask. OBDII connectors are standardized, so are the variables. This guy lets you download the software for free. You actually pay for his work by buying the connector. I see he has the non-uniform DTC codes for Nissan too.
If you have a spare laptop sitting around, doesn't need to be powerful at all, I use an old 233 MHz / 64 MB ram Dell Latitude CPi, this package is the way to go.

It's cheaper than that elsewhere - I paid about $135 with a case, and it's a piece of cake to use.

Same here. Got mine from somewhere in TX. (Mid-State Auto or Supply?) $139 shipped, IIRC.
