Parts Question

Ok, here is the deal...

I bought my 2001 Max SE (Sterling Mist) used a few months ago and have taken wonderful care of it since I got it. There are a few paint chips on the front bumper and hood but I have learned through this site that unfortunately this is normal.

What I have not seen on anyone's Max are big paint chip/scratches on the exterior door trim pieces (guards). I hope I am explaining it well but I am talking about those thin plastic rails, one on the outside of each door.

I assume that whoever owned the care before me habitually parked next to inconsiderate people who threw open their car doors thus dinging what is now my Max on these guard pieces.

While I am very happy that no damage came to the actual doors, I would like to get these pieces replaced unless someone has a better idea. I have no idea the part #, whether I will have to paint the pieces, and how to remove/install them or let the dealership do it (for how much $$$).

I would appreciate any help. Thanks guys.

well they are plastic right? if there is any place hwere the plastic is pushed up the best thing to do is shave off the part that is bunched up and touch it up with some paint thats the easiest way unless you really want to replace all those pieces

While I can't answer your question, I have had a few of those dings caused by inconciderate Mo Fo's in parking lots. Chipped the paint off of the outermost edges of the guard. I filled them in with touchup paint as MaxSe recommeded. Looks no worse than the multitude of chips in my hood. I would supect that the guards are held on by trim adhesive and can be pulled off and replaced with new ones. They probally don't come painted from Nissan.

Re: Parts Question

I believe the guards you are referring to are about $68 new (that was for the driver's door). I got this from three different body shops when I brought my car in for estimates. You might get a better price from a body shop than the dealer, worth checking out.
