Guess Who I Met Last Night.

During break at work last night, people were complementing the Maxima. Someone said watch out, I am going to steal it (it was a joke but I still got paranoid).

After work, we were walking out and one kid tells me to watch out for my headlights. I said I know, they get stolen frequently. He says "yeah my boy did it before and they sell it for a buck fifty ($150) for the lights" I am shocked they damage the car for only $150 and then he says "the headlights are garbage to them, they just want the xenon bulb and harness."

I wanted to report him to the cops...but i didn't.
He also told me how they steal the lights but I don't want to say.

I also learned a lesson--I am not bringing this car back to work.

Turn the bastid in.

thanks for bringing that up

I said "I am going to change these headlights for 2000/2001 headlights" and he said "why? drive around in these. you have insurance. it's what insurance is for. they rip you off anyway. If you have full coverage don't worry about it"

Then i remembered the $500 deductable

Well, it isn't this kid, it's one of his friends. (This kid drives a Jetta without HIDs..so I don't know)

Ignorance is bliss, as they say...no offence...this is directed at your "friend," who knows where you live, so i'd be EXTRA careful!!!...

Yeah there's a $500 dollar detuctible, but if you get bitten once by these guys, and depending how much damage they do to the car, your max might not be left good as new...nothing is like having the car roll of the plant...

Not only that, but sooner or later, insurance companies are going to start to pass on the HUGE loss they are taking on to customers. Which means that if your car has xenons, and/or you been hit once/ and/or you're in a high risk area (ie. NYC, NJ), expect a surcharge...

I think I can speak for all Max owners who have been hit when I say that our cars suffered, because we got too relaxed....I know that's how I got hit....

Once bitten twice shy....

I agree 100%.

In addition to preventing this from happening to other people, what does it say about the "kid" and the lack of ethics and morality involved? Who needs friends like that, even if the are merely acquaintences or casual friends?

Cops can't do anything because of what he said. It's hearsay. If your HIDs are stolen... then you can tell the cops about it and they will investigate the "friend" but there's no guarantee. They will definitely not arrest the guy immediately because of what this co-worker told you.

If there's been a rash of HID thefts in your area, then the cops MAY be interested in monitoring this kid (the one that steals them to make a buck fifty ). Otherwise, lcf is correct--the cops won't bother to investigate "hearsay". However, if they have "sensible hearsay", they may be willing to investigate further.

Either way, you need to tell your boy to chill the **** out w/this ****. Just explain to him how it ****s the owner of the Max up, if he cares that is, which I doubt!

Maybe a better solution would be to get the address of that kid that steals(stole) the lights before, and then have a Northeast Max meet at his house, with 02/03 owners having VIP passes! :

Hearsay is only a problem when it goes to court. It's an informational tip to the cops, which is totally justifiable. I know it's hard to not cross everything up between what the police do and what is legal in the courtroom, but police can act on tips, and the information they turn up is no longer hearsay, but evidence. The hearsay rule only really applies in a trial when a witness states something that he/she overhears from another conversation.

Ihave a VIP pass,it's 18" long and made of cast iron. Instrutions say to apply gently, but with increasing stroke and pressure to the kneecaps

True. All I was saying is they're not going to arrest the guy because a coworker of GLE02NJ's said his friend has stolen them before in the past. Investigate him? Possibly... if the cops confront GLE02NJ's coworker and finds out who this "friend" is, etc. Is that going to happen though? Unlikely.
