Windows roll down when I turn car off!

Hey guys-
I was wondering if anyone had any solutions or suggestions for my problem. I have a 2003 SE Max, and have recently started to get a problem with my power windows. Whenever I turn the car off, and open the driver's door, the front two windows roll down BY THEMSELVES. The car's still under warranty, so I'm not too worried, but I would like to try to fix it myself, since I can't leave the windows open when I park somewhere. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

The only time that should happen is if you hold down the unlock button on your remote.

I know they roll down after you turn the car off if you hold down the buttons on the door. But other than that don't know what the problem could be.

must be a virus... my driver side (only) rolls itself down 3" after closing if I use the auto-up feature. If I roll up by lifting lightly the window stays up. if I "click" up after the window is closed it immediately rolls down 3" again. Sounds like a related problem. Imagine a 2003 model having power window control problems. It's not rocket science. I went to the dealer yeterday to ask for a miracle cure. They couldn;t understand what I was describing. "You mean the window doesn't go up and down" the service manager said. Not a confidence builder. Doesn't make me look forward to dropping off my 15 day old SE for them to work on either. Rumor is that a reset of the BCM is the fix.

Jay,

The windows are supposed to reverse themselves if something gets stuck in them (like an arm) when closing. I suspect yours simply need adjusting, since it sounds like they are over-running a stop at the top of the window. Hope this helps.

But if it was a fuse problem, wouldn't the windows not work AT ALL? They work just fine when the doors are closed, but when you open them up, they roll down

wait, hold on before you have this done...the exact same thing started happening to me after i had brought the caar into the dealership. i called them with the problem, they told me to bring it in and they'd take a look at it. long story short, they accused me of messing with the battery cable, which i didn't do, so they wouldn't have to pay for whatever they did the first time. so they reset the window control, charged me $100, i got it back, and on the way home, it started doing the same thing. it seems to work fine now, but i am afraid it will start up again...nissan service BLOWS!!

Unbelievable. I have heard of at least five '03 maxima with weird power window behavior. I have not yet heard of anyone who has been delighted with the repair. Several owners have said that are just living with thye wonow problems. I guess that includes parking with your windows open?

As i stated in a previous post..
THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM.. it can be cured..

FOr the windows that reverses 3" by itself, i had the same problem on my 2k3... after i installed teh vent visors ... the windows detected the obstruction from teh vent visors and reversed..

What you need to do is retrain the power window module to learn how far to roll the window up and at what force it should apply ... My vent visors come with instructions, and now i never have this problem..

I believe it was roll it up and down like 5-10times in a row, and it will soon learn it.. if not, i think when it rolls up, you lightly apply pressure upwards and it will learn..

As for the guy taht had the problem when you turn off the car the windows roll down, well, for that, that is just strange..

The windows in our cars 2k2/2k3 are not normal power windows.. How many cars do you know that has an AUTO UP function? except for high end cars like BMW and BENZ's this feature is unique... IT IS A ROCKET SCIENCE!

Alright, I've had the same exact problem. It was a major issue. I couldn't leave my car at all because I would walk out and the car would be wide open. The problem started to happen right after I'd had the dealer perform my clutch replacement on the car. The battery had been disconnected for some time. I also had an issue where the interior lights would randomly turn on and off on their own while driving. It was crazy! At around the same time, I had a problem with the sunroof, I was not able to close it, then I got it closed and couldn't open it. It was like a ghost was screwing with me!

I brought the car into the dealer, told them what was happening and they acted like I was loosing my mind. However, when I got the car back, all of these issues were resolved.

What did I conclude? Well, the computer is linked into everything in the car including the power windows, interior lights and the sunroof. I suspect that the dealer intentionally did something, like putting the computer in a diagnostic mode or changing some internal operational computer parameters or flashing the computer with known bad code in order to force me to come back for service. Unfortunately, dealers don't get paid all that much for warranty work so I think the dishonest ones will manipulate the situation to force additional warranty requests by the customer. If I'm right in what I'm suggesting a dealer could bill out a couple of hours in diagnostics for electrical problems when it would only take them a few minutes to resolve the issue.

Have you recently had any warranty work done on your car?

If you pull the battery off.. it will definitly screw up your sunroof and probably the power windows as well..

In the owners manual there is a trick if you loose power for your roof..

My sunroof is a little buggy sometimes..

Like a MICROSOFT CODING error

The battery would have to be unplugged for a while because there is a backup battery in the 2K2 or later ECM which can provide power to the computer for, I think, about 48 hours.

Huh? where did you find that info about that back up battery..

If you kill it, usually the procedure to wipe out all memory is to hold the brakes down or turn on lights..

Unfortunately for my car with my 1farad cap, it takes a little longer to purge the system of any juice.. (LED still blinks without the battery for a long *** time)..

That info is in the ESM (Electronic Service Manual).
