performer than the '04 Maxima. 280hp is very strong! I will be looking to the G35 as a Nissan 4DSC, not the Maxima anymore.

Too bad it'll look like a TSX on steroids. The TSX isn't a bad car, but I'm not crazy about the idea of modeling the TL after it.

Kinda sounds familiar how the 2k4 Maxima is modeled after the Altima...

280hp is awesome but will it still be FWD?

All that power and not get it to the ground some how will stink. Unless they have some a TCS or something else!

They have proposed an AWD TL-S due to the massive power...dunno if it will really happen.

Is the 280hp a production number or just a guess by somebody?

is it me or does it seem like every car comin out now has more and more power? even little dodge neons can beat my max! i mean, the quality is nothing in comparison... but performance is goin to the sky on fairly cheap cars

Welcome to the second coming of the performance heyday. It's kinda like the late 60's again, only this time it's FWD and SAE Net HP (not Gross). Manufacturers are getting into HP wars, only this time the Americans aren't the ones doing it.

Damn, makes me almost think I should wait for that instead of a CL-S. I'm sure it's gonna be mid 30's though.

Wow...also don't forget that the new TL might not come with windshield wipers...You guys heard about that? The maxima might be screwed when the new tl comes out.

Why no wipers? Some new technology and automatically dries water once it hits the windshield?

I don't think the extra 35hp is too much to be concerned about.. Depends on the platform, and whether the car has gained excessive weight as well..

Anyone got pics??

Or shall i say:

Any way you look at it our Max's are a way better value (IMO). Is 25 extra HP worth the extra $5,000 - $10,000? Will they at least have the option of a 6-Speed tranny?

They're pretty nice cars, I was looking at the 02-03 Type-S before I got my Max, but it just wasn't worth it for me.

My friend got a 99 non type S w/ 40,000 miles for the same price as I got my 03 Max with 6,000 miles. The only option he has that I don't is heated leather. I don't think I need to say how ****ed off he was when I showed him my max for the same price

I think there is way to much player hating going on this thread. Lets face it guys our beloved Maxima would get flat out beat against the new TL'sIagree bang for the buck you can't beat a 03' Maxima, but as far as sheer performance the the new TL's will definitely have the upperhand, as for the curb weight on the new ones I hear that the 2004 will be about 150 pounds heavier than the current ones. I am pretty dissapointed with the 2004 Maxima's, I thought Nissan should have at least tuned them to at least 280 horsepower. The way car manafacturers are going 265 horsepower within a year or two will be nothing to brag about

i don't know what honda is doing? where does all of this horsepower in a sedan leave the nsx? the first gen only had about 270. and all of the other 80k plus cars out run it. hondas handle well, so the new tl should be a nice car. i will still love my max. if i need more horsepower, I'll just supercharge my car.

No playa hating here.. I found the type S TL/CL a much better looking car than the maxima, hands down..

The 04 maxima, i feel has a really cheap looking dash for some reason, and the front is ugly as hell..

I still think i will stick to my guns, and favour the G35 over anything..

Yeah, I agree. The 2004 TL/CL will kill the Maxima. You guys are forgetting that after 3 years, an Acura will have a higher resale value then a Nissan. That TL doesn't have any side mirrors...cameras I suppose? Now why didn't Nissan think about that for the 04 Maxima. I think 280 hp would be great because of the way th engine is. I think all the power doesn't come in until you hit the 4500+ rpm mark, then you really start to go so you won't spin out like crazy when you start.
I think the new tl will also have a LED dash board...imho it looks so nice.

We will find out the truth in October...

By the way, I think it's SO STUPID how the maximas came out in march. That just killed our resale value. Blah. I'm hoping to squeeze out 100k miles in my max.

I take it you think your Maxima gets lousy mileage.

My previous car was a '96 T-bird with the 4.6L V8. Get this: 205hp stock (285 ft/lbs) and 0-60 in 7.8 secs. Around town I'd get 15/16 mpg. Sucked big time. I had a cat-back exhaust, WAI, and pulleys however - it was more like a blistering 7.3 secs to sixty.

My 2k2 Maxima gets about 20mpg around town and has 50 more hp and is over a second faster to sixty than the overweight bird not to mention it can out handle it in every way.

I think the Maxima gets great mileage for the amount of power it has. The only thing I really miss is the RWD of my T-bird!

I sincerely doubt it. I guarantee they still get better mileage than us

And that's exactly why Acura has beefed up the TL performance - whatever we think, their direct competitor for the TL is the G35, and they're now competing against a Top Ten car with significant perf. Had to up the ante...

Old news....

Edmunds has had a 'page' about this for months now. They also have had the, and I stress this,...CONCEPT photos for a few weeks. Details like side mirrors, etc. should be very lightly speculated about since this is a concept vehicle and we all know how much can change once it hits the assembly line.

Even a card board box with wheels (with nice coat of paint) looks better then the 2004 max. I think the best looking 2004 car is the Mercedes E and SL class.

By the way, I think the 04 tl can easily beat the G35. Can't wait to see what the interior of the TL looks like.

I am looking forward to seeing one in person at the dealer as well. Who knows...after the initial debut and once they start 'dealing' a bit...one just might find its way to my garage...

Yeah, just wait until the Subaru STI. I think that might be the fastest STOCK mini car out there...

I still don't see how the hell that new fast NEON can beat our car...they're just $hit with a plastic armor on with wheels. I'm amazed that car can go over 40 without blowing up into pieces...
