Scratches... new paint??

I have a long scratch that goes all the way across my trunk lid, and a few on the hood... I don't know if I am too happy with the color black, would it be easy to have the car painted, say, silver? I mean, the body, engine bay, door sills, under the trunk and hood, etc? How much would something like that cost? Would it be worth it, or should I just have a touch up detail done, and stay black?

I live in New England, so I either have road salt, or pollen on my car That's why I am thinking silver, that can hide it better, and I wouldn't go through so much money on car washes...

Thanks!

Your cars pretty new.. Just remember if you change the color of the car the value will go down. If your doing the engine bay and everything that's a big job. Definitely like 5K would be good..

A new paint job will make the value go down? I would have thought it would stay the same, if not up!?

How does that work?

How much would it degrade the value of the car? Even if I got it done at a reputable place? or does that not matter, just the fact that it was done?

Buyers will tend to assume that if the car was repainted, then it must have been in a collision. On top of that, once you take the factory paint off, the perception is that aftermarket paint isn't as good, even if that's not the case, but the PERCEPTION is there.

If I were you, I'd wait until the car accumulated more nicks and scratches, and then I'd just have those places professionaly touched-up or repainted.

Nissan paint isn't that good... so I am uber the assumption that aftermarket paint is better!

if you are going to keep the car for the long term--paint it whatever color you like. the fact remains that repainting--even just the hood and fenders--is not a feature in a used car for sale. especially in the case of a recent vintage used car. how would you have reacted if you found out that your new maxima had been repainted prior to sale by the dealer?

YEah i have to agree nissan paints suck, before my 2k3 Max, I drove my 188hp 1994 Camry (baby blue OOOH YEAH!), till today, the paint is still so nice. I had my max since Feb, and I have nicks and scratches already. DOnt you just people who hate on Maximas? SH*T.... oh well.. I also want to know if nissan touch-up paint will do a good job on covering up the small scratches on the Max. I have a sheer silver one... scratches are pretty sucky.....

How bad are the scratches? Can you feel them, or they just in the clear coat? If they just in the clearcoat you may be able to remove them without re-painting, with wetsanding or buffing. Do they have a place like this in your area:

I don't think so, and they are pretty deep That's why I was thinking of going a new color if I am going to get a paint job done

if u go new color, u gotta get title changed....car might hold a salvage title afterward as a result...check your state laws regarding this BEFORE you decide to paint...

IMO paint it triple black and add a PPG based pearlized clear coat afterward...ur car will shine like no other!

I have heard from my father which is a Porsche lover that http://www.paintscratch.com/ is a great place to help with scratchs. (PER: 968.Net)

I have not tried their prodocts at this time.

Yeah I would never repaint a new car unless it was absoulutely neccessary. I would take precautions and other little steps before hand.
