50,000 miles on Stock Potenzas. Need Opinions!
First off let start by saying that everytime I try to search for more than 3 months worth of posts on tires my connection times out.
I've gotten 50,000 miles on my stock Potenzas. 43,000 were by the previous owner. I've got 4/32 of my tread left. It's time for some new better tires. Which are the best tires to get for the OEM 17's and what size?
I was thinking of the Falken's. I've got Maxspeeds if it helps.
Thanks in advance.

1. Summer only driving? Combined? Alot of rain?
2. Treadlife an issue to you?
3. More important>handling or comfort? (Performance vs. cush)
4. Price limitations?
5. Etc.
Many people will automatically say Pilot Sport A/S, but then there are others who have different needs/limits.

I'm in arkansas. So Combined summer and rain will do.
Treadlife isn't the most important. I'll be happy to get 50,000 out of them. I'd like some performance tires. And don't want to spend a fortune.

although I don't think you will hit 50K with any real performance tire...that and you will be very limited by stock size so you may have to jump sizes a bit...this is spelled out in the FAQ section.
Also, spend some time on the rest of the tire rack site...like
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/hpas.jsp
which gives a wealth of info with which you can narrow down your search.

Which tires are you running?
I went more to the cush side and went with Yokohama YK420's (pretty much the same as their Avid V4...just these are Discount Tire specific). I also went 225 55/17 for more comfort without giving up much handling. A word of note...when I bought them, they were only $90 a tire...I see these days they are $125....for $125 there are other options out there.

One option under $125 is the Cooper Lifeliner SLE touring. I have 13k miles on them since the end of November and they totally changed the car. Firm sidewalls but they don't beat you up unless the road is bad. We got almost 29k out of the Potenza's that came on the car and they were scarey in rain. I knew they were bad when my wife was complaining about the TCS all them time with them.
Tires are alot like shoes, they all have different purposes.

The Monsoon is the main reason I'm getting new shoes. Does this happened a lot here?

Get the ContiExtremeContacts. I got them for my max and they are great, for about half the price of pilot sport a/s tires.

As far as I know, the best all-season tires for the 17" inch wheels are:
1. ContiExtreme : The best tire at extremely good price (about $85 at TireRack). The only minor problem - you have to up-size or down-size a tiny bit: up to (235-45-17, 93W, 400AAA) or down to (215-50-WR17, 90W, 400AA) about $85 at TireRack. I should note that the smaller 215-50-17 tire does not meet the 91 load rating recommended for the Maxima. Great ratings and reviews - better than Michelin Pilot Sports.
2. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S: As good as the Conti, for twice the price. In my mind, the only reason to buy the Pilot is that you can get them in the desired 225-50-17 size.
3. Sumitome HTR+: Like the Conti, it's an excellent tire for a very good price (about $80 at TireRack). Again, the Sumi is not available in the 225-50-17 size so have to go with either 215-50-17 or 235-45-17. Either size has load rating of 91 or better. I hear that the Sumi's are extremely sticky on dry surfaces and in the rain and snow they are incredible.
By the way, the above rating is from TireRack's Web site (www.tirerack.com).

Actually, 50k is about where my RE's are going. I have 36k on them now and they have quite a bit of tread left. Then again, the RE's at 100% tread sucked in the rain, so I'm sure they are not safe with less tread
discounttiredirect.com have the Yokohoma AVS ES100's for $119 shipped in the 225-45-17 size.....

I had the toyo proxes on my 5th gen max. I went from 215/55/16 -> 225/55/16.
The tires don't spin nearly as easily from a stop compared to the toyos. The toyos also have frightening wet traction, but I haven't had the chance to try the contis in the wet.
Check out this thread
http://www.clublexus.com/forums/show...threadid=86750
I was considering the re950's but many maxima buyers on tirerack said that the tire was very noisy so I backed off. I thought about the turanza ls-h, but didn't price it out. If money was no object I would have gotten the michelin sport a/s.
I also considered the dunlop sport a2's, since I have had good success with them on my other cars. Their wet traction seems better than in dry...You can read about them on tire tack too.
In the end, the contiextremes were the best value. And also seeing how corvette owners though they were good enough in performance for them was also a factor.

How do the 225s look? Is there a lot of sidewall bulge? One of the reviews I read on tire rack said the Contis looked narrower than other tires in the same size. I was considering going up one size to 225 like you did.
