Yeah its great when you have people in the back seat saying didn't you pay almost 30k for this car?!?! While you put your head down and say ummm yeah.

Mine can't be fixed either from what the dealer tells me. The TSB doesn't apply to my car. Even when i tryed to fix it with the TSB it didn't work so i guess i'll live with it.

Guy's... no offense, but "live with it"? C'mon... where's your fight? Where's your nads? That's B.S.! Call Nissan direct and contact a rep... a brand new car MUST be made right. Go to the dealership owner. Through the lemmon law into your conversation (especially with the dealer). They can not ignore this. Try telling them you can smell exhaust fumes... anything... get ****ed and be firm! There's nothing worse than hearing someone saying "I guess I'll have to live with my defective $30,000 Maxima.... Oh well..." Someone up my way had an Infinity with issues. They drove up and down the dealership road with writing on the car saying the dealership does not stand behind it's product! Guess what? She got her car fixed!........... C'mon dudes FIGHT!

Then if the door is aligned perfectly then all that means is that door alignment is not the issue. Could be a mislocated rubber seal, you know the ones that run all the way around the door? Compare yours to another Max, in detail. You should be able to see some wear or dirt all the way around the doors seal. See if there is an area where it's less worn, Or try this out... use a little chalk powder from a carpenters line snap tool. Put some all the way around the seal, close the door, open the door, and see if the powder is left all the way around where you would expect the seal to contact the car. You may find a spot where little to no powder is left, indicating poor seal contact.

Nissan had a comercial saying that the Max doors were designed after "airline" doors for "super" quietness! Remind them of that commercial and good luck...

Mine has 20,000 miles. I bought it back in May and only had it for a week before finding faults with it. Now the last thing to be fixed is the door which they can't find the fix.

I don't know if I have a leg to stand on, since they having giving me a loaner car (grand prix 02). Should I ask for woodgrain or
some kind of extras

My car is noisy too and it's driving me crazy. Roll all your windows 1/2 way down, open and shut your doors. You will notice the glass moves A LOT inside the seals. Either the rubber lips are just low quality or the glass is too thin, or both. There is way too much play in the window sealing area. If you notice, the rubber also feels harder and slicker than most other manufacturers. I think that's where the wind noise comes from. I don't think it's the door seals, it's the window glass seals. Look up the TSB on the wind noise. I think the test for this is to tape over the exterior window sealing area with masking tape, test drive to see if the noise goes away, if so, you found the problem. Good luck finding a real fix.

I've noticed more wind noise than expected from the rear doors in my 03 SE. I had the car in for its first oil change at 3000 kms last month and had the dealer look at this problem; they could not find a problem.

I don't notice any wind noise until 120 km/h (75 mph) but at speeds above this threshold, the wind noise is significantly worse than my old 98 SE was. That does not seem right.

Hey skier, i totally agree with you that the wind noise isn't coming from the actually door seal.

The chalk idea mentioned ealier is a great idea, i will be trying that. I also am going to try rolling up a small rag or something into the door jam to see if i can pinpoint the problem and drive the car to see if the sound is muffled or gone and then work on that area, moving the rag around the whole top of the window.

I'm afraid that wind noise--like rattles--is part of the Datun heritage. My Audi quattro has 150,000 miles on it and it is much tighter in terms of wind noise and rattles than my '03 SE. No, you don't buy a maxima for its quiet, tight ride. Nor do you buy an Audi for its thrust.

Mine had rear window noise from date of purchase. There was a TSB and dealer got rid of 80% of it.

I had the TSB done and it got rid of 70-80% of it. It is not nearly as quiet as my Accord was. I also hear what seems to be rain coming in throught the rear seals? No moisture is coming into the cabin, but You can hear the raindrops more clearly than just hitting the window. Does anyone know what I mean? When I had the TSB done the mechanic had never done this before. I wonder if he even did it right. It is just frustrating. I love my max, but I have had the auto tranny tsb done, the brake judder, wind noise, and I haven't had my car even a year. Now, it is out of warranty and the rotors are warped again. I have a 2000 Max with 40k on it. I suppose the extended warranty won't cover the warped rotors? Should I just keep driving on them since I will have to get them replaced anyway?

Has anyone ever notived that the front door glass is thicker than the rear door glass? This could be the problem and if so, all the weather stipping in the world won't help. I have a 2K2 I35 and the windows are loose in the tracks. Expecially the front(the thicker ones). You can almost push down on the window while it's all the way up and get it to come down enough to get a hanger in it. Dealer told me this is normal. If you roll the window half way down and grab the window, you can move it side to side and up and down and almost lift it right out of the track. Does anyone else have this problem?

it's not really a matter of misaligned doors or defective rubber. the glass is thin and the OEM seals, by design, just plain old suck. i've had the TSB done, and i took off all the door seals and even caulked the heck out of them. the max just isn't a solidly built car, and unfortunately, it'll never sound 30K quiet in terms of wind noise.

The problem is that our Max's do not have the strongest of frames
ala Volvo/BMW - so these dealerships have their cars mishandled
by the the bed trucks that transport the cars to the dealership
and once that frame flexes on the wrong spot you have these issues-
your car was sold to you defective, so if the rubber strip seals
around your door are fine, and they say the alignment is perfect-
U tell those fokkers that its not perfect!! If they dont wanna fix it-
You have two choices- Resort to a JOHN Q technique
or get a lawyer- also reprt their azz to the beeter business bureau-
good luck

Ok for those of your telling me to do the TSB for the wind noise, I already did (which i stated earlier in the post). The dealer did it and i also did it to make sure they weren't pulling my leg.

these windows are cheap cheap cheap
