BMW's dont have full rings either. I have the actual hella kit and it is the same look as Rocketmans. Thing is, the tops of BMW headlights are shrouded, so you cant see that the rings arent a complete circle. I cant wait to do this to my max.

You know I did the install just today and did a pretty good job of doing it quick and accurately. But ran into one problem after I took the car out for a drive. One the passenger side the clip was preglued to the angel eye snapped off, now I gotta open the housing back up again. This aint going to well at all. Im a tad ****ed. I might ask umnitza to see what we can do about it. Its just that I thought the rings were molded well, except while installing the rings for the Xenons, you REALLY have to bend it to get it inside the reflector. And then mark and drill the holes and even then when you squeeze it in there, it is a REALLY tight fit, almost too tight in the sense where it seems like there is too much stress on the ring. Pics below show what happened, you can see the clip way in the right corner.

Those look sweet!
Alright, this may sound dumb... but I don't really get how the angel eyes work? When do the rings light up, and what does it? Obviously they light up independantly of the normal lights (right)... so what's the trigger?
I've been thinking about picking some up... but I've yet to figure that bit out. Thanks.

i will be installing mine over next week along with some other mods but after looking at the kit and the light box, i am am not a big fan of that bulb, too yellow for me, i would have prefered a whiter light to match our hids. I was wondering what type of bulb that was and if there is a replacement from PIAA. I want to replace the bulb badly.

What it basically is a fiberoptic style tube that sends the light from the light box to the rings. And the rings have a whole bunch of slits in it. The slits it was shows the light. If there were no slits, you would most likely see a very very faint light going through the ring. Almost not noticeable. So basically it is the cuts/slits that make it refract the light thus making it seem that the ring it light up.

LEDs wouldnt get near the brightness that this bulb does, wait till you light it up, its unbelievably bright in that box, that is why the demon eyes look so bright. LEDs will never get up in the range of 35-55watt of light output.

Nice job Rocketman. They look good. I personally like the rings not being a full circle. But thats just me. As far as the filter goes, for changing the color of the rings, the porblem is that they dont last that long. At least the ones that umnitza has right now. From what he told me they only last for about and hour. The reason is that the bulb in the light box is so strong that it burns the filter. I do give Rocketman and BigDogJonx props for doing this mod themselves. I would not dare touch my headlight. Knowing me I would probably screw something up.

This is the model of the bulb

So as you can see im about 99.9% sure no one makes a superwhite of this bulb.
Also since it dont show clearly on the back of that pic, this is a SEVENTY ONE watt 12V bulb. That is some major brightness. I knew it had to be about 55watts.

Thanks for the compliments!! Sorry to hear about your clips, Dixit. I thought for a moment or two that one of mine was gonna snap.
I can't wait until Matt finds a suitable filter...that will be sweet.
It would have been nice to have it professionally installed by one of Umnitza's guys.
It's definitely worth the hassle to do this install!!!

I emailed you. That glue that we use is a special 2500lb/sq/in bonding agent. How a clip came apart is beyond me. It speaks of a problem with the glue. This is the first time I've seen this.
Literally, in the hundreds (well more) rings that I've seen. We will make you "whole" by getting you what you need.
Some answers to extremely good questions
1: All 5 series after 2001 have what Hella refers to as Celis technology for the headlights. These are fiber optic driven 'angel eyes'.
2: Thank you for the props on the install guides. but really, thanks to Ruben for letting us do the work on his car to be able to put them together.
3: 2K1 headlights are a no go.
4: The filters are going to go into some R&D after July 4th weekend.
5: The BIG question - I wish LEDs, or LEDs would...
Well, they wouldn't. Our first Generation LED was ok at night, and nearly invisible during the day. You put the two of them side by side and it's no comparison. Is there more work? You bet! Is it worth it? Yes. Is there significantly more work than say an E46 intall? yes. Is it significanly LESS work than an LED kit, NOPE, it's maybe 1 hour MAX more more than an LED kit.

whats the reason for not putting them on the 2k-2k1???
i have templates...maybe we can work somthing out! im already making eye lids for all the 5gens..i have the template for this...

LED's work, but you have to have the Hella Kit. I did this on a 97 5 series. We didnt use the Hella fiberoptics. We just put an LED into each input on the rings. Thing is, it didnt look right at all. The rings were too bright. We ended up using the fiberoptics/lightbox setup and they looked alot better.
Now, here is my question. Does the kit interrupt the beam pattern any on the HID's??

Actually, LEDs work with our kit as well.
It's not about them working.
There are more issues with them than you care to play with.
It doesn't interrupt the beam pattern.
The LEDs cannot be as bright as the fiber optic. Unless something went wrong. I even talked to the LED suppliers from two major companies, that's what they told me
There are a lot of factors here.
We don't sell Gen IV fiber optics anymore, but we do sell you 9 LEDs with a Gen IV set of rings. It's on the site. You have to buy 20 LEDs to make sure that 8 of them will be the same color temperature. That's not fiction, it's fact.
I talked to the folks at 2 other LED places besides Superbright, they all said the same things:
1) LEDs just don't compare to a 35W incandescent no matter what you do.
2) 8000 mcd is really the maximum, but 10,000mcd don't noticably lower the life expectancy.
3) Wiring is still a PITA no matter what anyone says - we sell those and I still say it's a PITA.
One other thing we've noticed, on many cars, if you don't like the look of the light box (M3 excluded), the light box can be placed into the bumper tray without removing the bumper. So all you see is a black sheath and the bumper tray has the light in it.
The rings we make have the "opening" or indentation for the 5mm LEDs already. But here's the slight catch. Not a big one, but enough of one. LEDs don't like vibration. The folks @ superbright...said:
If they vibrate, they break, if there is a voltage spike, they break, and sometimes they exhibit a weird tendency to change output color....
Bottom line, they are a nice cheap alternative to the best and brightest, but until LED technology advances, they will not be "all that".
