Sun Beating Down on Parked Max

Max'ers:

OK...it's Summer! It's blazing hot. Your car is baking in the parking lot.

Here is my idea for a moderately-secure area (office parking lot, house driveway in daytime (and you're home), etc.

Put the window locks "ON" and crack the 2 rear windows. If you have those windshades on your side doors, then crack the front ones instead. It's hard to slip a coat hanger in there to spring the lock.

If you have a sunroof....put it on the setting that flips it up in the rear and then, close the sunshade until there is only a 2" gap ( In this case, you may choose to leave the rear windows closed).

This will keep the most of the direct sun from beating up your dasboard and seats and still provide ventilation through the top of the sunroof (hot air rises).

I checked out those $29.95 windshield reflective screens that you put up whenever you park your car. Come on guys....there's got to be a good fit out there for less money. It might make sense if you live in a mostly sunny climate (Florida, Az,California) but Joisey? Nahhhhh.

So...if you have some ideas...share them. By the way, I have not put the tint on the sunroof yet...gotta to get the hit-and-run damage repaired first.

thanks

I paid $10 for a silver reflective dashboard sunshade at Pep Boys. My windows are tinted which blocks something like 99% of UV rays and 65% of the suns heat. If you just close the sunshade there's no real need to tint the sunroof unless you want to. My car doesn't get that hot even after 9-10 hours in the parking lot.

As for leaving the windows open...sometimes I don't even notice when it rains during the day and I'm at work. Even if I did, it takes me a few minutes to get from the 3rd floor all the way down to the parking lot. Not worth it IMO. That's what the auto-window down feature is for. I hit it as soon as I can see my car and by the time I get to it it's cool inside.

$100 + Lifetime warranty. And they used only 1 piece of tint so it is not joined in the middle

Maybe it's different where you live...but in PA if you tint the windshield you have to take it off at inspection time. So that's $100 down the drain.

I ordered a custom-fit sunshade for my Max

last year from http://www.autosportcatalog.com it's not cheap at 40 bucks but fits like a glove....there'e less than a half-inch gap all around the edges of the windshield....

In NY, unlike PA and CT you do not have to take your car to get inspected at a State run agency but to NY state licensed and certified inspection shop

Actually PA is the same as NY. It's NJ that you have to go to a State run agency. In PA you just have to go to a certified shop like you said, and almost all of the independent shops in my area are certified. The problem is that windowshield tint is illegal in PA, so if the shop lets me pass inspection with it on they can get in trouble if I get pulled over and the cop decides to really break *****.
