Nissan long term warranty. Should I buy?

I purchased my 2001 SE with 17,000K from Difeo Nissan in New Jersey. I now have 33,000K. The dealer wants $918 for a 72 months/100,000 miles Gold Preferred Nissan Security+Plus Vehicle Protection Plan. I have to purchase it before I reach 36,000 miles on my car.

1. What's your experience. Is a long term warranty worth buying or should I rely on the Maxima's great reliability?

2. If I should buy it, is there any way to get it cheaper?

3. Is there a better plan out there than Nissan's?

Thanks.

I've got the same warranty, but paid somewhere around $500 for it when I bought the car. Granted, they up the price when you get more miles, but $918 is still too much IMO.

I'd haggle the price down with the dealer or go to another.. the extended warranties are generally marked up like crazy. Couldn't hurt to get a second quote.

I've heard horror stories about using warranties from other companies.. its probably best to stick with Nissan's.

Gold is usually not the top warranty, actually with some companies its the bottom.

I just bought a warranty on my 02 wiith 21 K miles from Warrantydirect.com
its 6 years 100K mile 0 deduct for $1325.

haven't claimed on it(obviously) but they seem to have a good rep on the internet. Also, the warranty covers virtually everything.

I have the "Gold Security Plus" 7-Years, 100K, from nissan. I have recently just used it for a new front strut, and new shock, which still didn't fix the problem, but eventually they will find it.

Anyway, that is about $500-900 worth of work, i think it paid for itself now. But I also only have to pay a transfer fee of $35 for mine.

Hope the input helped.

I would get one but I don't think the Maxima needs it. I'm depending on it to outlast me and I'm 19.

Nope, just major stuff and parts that don't regularly break.

I just had a coil go bad in my 2k max. I have the 7 year nissan warranty and it covers it. What's really cool is that the dealer tells me that nissan will replace all 6 and not just one. The cost of that repair alone is more than the warranty cost. So was it worth it for me... Hell yeah. Put the cost in with the cost of the car and it doesn't hurt so bad. Good luck...
