Car violently kicks out of gear in reverse

I was wondering if this is normal on my 2K2 6 speed. In reverse, at 2000 RPMs, the car violently kicks out of gear. I'm not sure what speed that is, but it is probably around 10 mph. Is this normal?

Hmmmm..... Mine hasnt done this but i doubt its normal. I'll give it a try when i get my whip back... It is being "serviced" (Tranny Replacement). I'll find me a big parking lot and go fast in reverse to see if it pops out. maybye ill take some video of wild driving while im at it. I havent driven in 12 days and counting.......

i remember people talking about this a long time ago.

i think steve (dmbmaxima) and ethan (emax)were the two who noticed this. but i think they concluded that it only did it to them when they were going pretty damm fast in reverse (like 20 or 25). maybe search for that thread.

What were you doing at 2000RPM in reverse gear?

Yeap, I also remember this discussion. I've yet to "try" this since I rarely hit 1500k in reverse.

2000RPM-reverse? Are you 1/8 mile drag racing in reverse?
Is that a new thang!

2000 RPMs isn't that high at all. That's like 10 mph.

Damn, already broke it huh? Sounds like maybe a bent shift fork, but even 10-15mph in reverse is too much.

This is not normal. I had this happen on an old car.. I took it and they told me the gearbox was shot. It should not be popping out. Jus like it doesnt pop out in first or second etc.... On the car I had, it happened in 5th... But if you held it there, it would drive normal.

I dont know how normal this is but it doesnt sound too good IMO. I have a 98 5spd at work which im taking the tranny out of tomorrow (hopefully ) the shift fork is rattling loose, its to the point were If the car is running, I cant change the gears. I had to shut it off, pop in in reverse and start her up and as soon as I let my foot off the brake it starts rollin My first though was the clutch master but looks like I got more work cut out for me.

WTF happend to every1s sig? Not again
Id take it to the dealer Andy, you still got warranty. Make em fix that ****.

Like a few people said here, me and Steve both had this problem. Funny thing is we both thought it was normal becuase we both had the same problem Then we found out we where special, lol. The problem "use to" happen to us when we got up to about 20 MPH in reverse (yes we where racing, jk). Me and Steve also had a chipped 3 rd gear syncro and I had a cracked tranny block (oops!). So we both had our tranny's fixed under warranty. The guy at nissan had a name for the reverse pop out thing, basicly the tanny is out of wack and this should be fixable under waranty.

Dealer worked on it today. Ended up being 2 broken tranny mounts. They were replaced under warranty.

They couldn't duplicate the 3rd gear grinding thing though. WTF!!!

Ok two broken tranny mounts should have nothing to do with a gear poping out, that just does not make sense. Did they show you the mounts after? If the mounts were broken you'd be hearing a nice SLAM! noise every time you took off and more vibration then normal. Did you even have these symptoms be4? It just seems odd, and tell them to get in the damn car and show them how the damn thing grinds, they will never duplicate any problem, they are ghey like that.

They didn't show me the mounts and I didn't test them out either. I actually didn't even test the reverse thing. I'm getting sick with a cold or something and I just came home and am going to bed soon.

I took him for a test drive and he said that there is definitely a problem, but I need to go back on Friday and have the mechanic go with me.

BTW the guy is pretty cool. He does Auto Crossing so he is into modding cars and stuff. If any AZ peeps need a good tech, ask for Ryan at Midway Nissan. Really cool guy and LOVES to talk about AutoXing.

I tested it. It still kicks out of gear. The speed is between 15-20mph. Is that normal?

Edit: nevermind... I just read Ethan's post.
