I'm in the same situation. I'm trying to find a new head unit that has a 6 disk in-dash changer so I don't have to give that up. I never had a changer before I got the Max but I don't think I could give it up now.

NT2SHBBY...you put a Kenwood head unit in and left the Bose speakers/tweeters/sub right? Can they handle an aftermarket head unit? Does the system get noticably louder than 31 on Bose was? And does it stay clear when cranked up? Thanks.

BiggD--kenwood KDC-MP522 is what I got.....get the Bose adapter and ur straight....

it's noticeably clearer AND louder.... put it like this..on the Bose HU, I kept my music at 31....on the Kenwood I go to 25 and it goes up to 35..let that gauge you

I can carry on a normal conversation in the car with the radio at 20-23.

Depends on the CD, but mine is normally at 31.

Kenwood has a nice double din DPX-MP4030 that fill the space- but there arent' any 6-disc in dash changers out there other than OEM/Bose

I say get a headunit with MP3 capability. Then you won't need the 6 disk. 1 CD can hold 10+ cds worth.

I am faced with the same problem. There are many users that have claimed that an aftermarket cd player sounds dramatically better then the oem bose unit. Even with stock speakers. User 'studman' used the headunit trim from a 2000 GXE in his 2k2 and it looks super clean. He is using a kenwood cd player and EQ below it so I don't know how a single DIN cd player would look. The problem is the part was like 80 bucks! Its looks very good though.

That looks like the dash kit that you get when you don't have the Bose I think. My buddy has a 2k GXE without Bose and that is what his dash looks like.

I have the Scosche kit. Bought it from Sounddomain for less than $10.

It's not an exact match like the GXE trim but it's good enough for me.

Click below for more photo's of the kit:

Nope. The only modification i did was glue the pocket shut so it fits flush in the kit.

I have Infinity's on my ride as well. Got the Reference series, what'd you get?

I'm still debating over this one myself. The biggest 'con' is the Titanium trim I have. I want a perfect match (yes, I'm ****) and black kit just stands out too much for me. Not to mention the in-dash changer and steering wheel controls. You can get that integrating PAC adapter but then you gotta mount the projector lens for it in the console somewhere, and that's another hole in the car. And it could be blocked my the shifter depending on the gear you're in. UUGGGHHHH I hate descisions. My Focals would be SO much cleaner with aftermarket HU. :-/

Not necessarily, you can stick the IR LED behind the rearview mirror. Depending on your headunit - the IR should be in almost direct line of sight of your HU.

Heh, the difference there is he has his wife to answer to if he buys something. She only lets him have his ***** once a month or so. And when she does she keeps the money hidden so he can't spend it.

I don't follow...why do you need an infrared lens? I was told if you buy the adapter to make the steering wheel controls work it was just a matter of making the right wire connections to that adapter. And that is all behind the head unit itself.

Nope. The Pac Unit is basically a remote. You program the button. It learns from your real remote and it has to be in line of site.

Nope. The only adapter I can find is a PAC that "learns" the remote-control "codes" of the aftermarket HU and transmits them via infared to it from an emitter diode that you mount somewhere.

If this is true I definitely won't be changing my head unit anytime soon.
