If it's still working I wouldn't touch it.

Heck no! Those things are very sensitive. I just replaced one today.

i cleaned mine after i did the throttle body. ive never had any symptons of a bad maf so i used a q-tip and whipped it gently. i then used electronic parts cleaner because its not as abrasive as intake or brake cleaner and its safe for the plastic on the housing. i had a white paper towel underneath and it there were a few drops of red liquid which obviously came from the k&n. i figured it was better without the oil on it and i have no problems for 2k miles. this of course is no guarantee that cleaning it will cause no problems, just my experience.

When I did my Frankencar install I looked at my throttle body and it looked very clean took a towel across and it had minimal dirt on it. but as for the MAF Mine is enclosed in some type of caseing and would be better off buying a new one because its so fragile.

I'd be weary of spraying or touching the MAF sensor in any way. On the other hand, someone once suggested getting a bowl of rubbing alcohol, and very gently moving it back and forth inside there (after removing the MAF part from the MAF housing, if that's possible on these Maximas...)
