why would a mechanic not want to install udp???

I dropped my udp and FTSB by my mechanic to install but he didn't get to it till today. I asked my parents to go by and check out the progress of the car. I get a call from parents all ****ed that my mechanic wouldn't put the stuff on because "if nissan thought that these would help then, that they would have put them on all ready. What makes you think that you know more than nissan...and why would I want to make your car faster??"

Any ideas how to handle this??? If I had known this guy was gonna get his pannies in a whad, I would have never asked. This is the same guy who told me a month ago that he would be happy to do exhast work and to install headers as soon as they come out.

Is this just a normal mechanic shop or is it nissan affiliated? If it is nissan affiliated then there is your answer. But if it is not, my best guess, maybe his boss is puttin the heat on him not to do anything like that from a legal stand point. Maybe he thinks you would come back and go after him if something happened with nissan. OR maybe he is just an idiot and doesn't know how to do it, which brings up another point. Why don't you do it yourself, those are two easy mods, a couple of hand tools and 3 or so hrs and your done. You might learn something, don't be afraid of your car.

Pullies are a different monster than most bolt ons. Many things can potentially go wrong with UDPs including leaky oil seals, timing ring issues, and belt tension problems.

Also, they are a complete PITA to install and hardly worth it IMO.

This is a normal mechanic who builds custom cars and is completely independent...I was under the impression that if I gave him my shop manual, the parts, and with detailed instuctions with pictures that this would be a 1-2hr job and this would be something that if installed correctly would be no be no problem....am I wrong??

I know lots of people who have had these installed and with no problems and with modest gains

Just bring the car somewhere else, its not even worth doing business with this guy IMO. He probably doesn't want to be bothered with the work. If he does in fact build custom cars, little stuff like a FSTB and an UDP are more or less a waste of time.

Take your car to a Nissan mechanic and let them do the install for you, sure they're gonna charge you outta da @$$ but at least you know it'll be done right.

I had no problems getting my Nissan mechanics to install anything on my car, they did my intake and FSTB. I would'nt trust some shadetree mechanic working on my car I don't care how many cars he says he builds in his off time.

If he had to bring his car to a mechanic to have a FSTB installed, do you honestly think he would be capable of doing a UDP?

Good one Andy, I'll give it to you. You may not be the best at working on cars but at least you try like hell and you haven't done any permanent damage. A+ for effort.
