I changed the wiring, now my side markers blink with the turn signals. I think it makes more sense that way. Anyone know if it's legal?

i'm sure it's ok

not sure if it's legal but makes more sense. some cars don't even have the blinkers to begin with.

Advice

Hey Y2, can you tell me how you did that or point to a post where it is described? Just wondering how to do that.

Thanks

Wiring Info

OK, let me try this, It's quite easy:

1) Find out the positive wire that makes your blinkers blink. (Use a multimeter)

2) Find out the ground wire on your side markers. Cut this wire, and connect this wire(from the sidemarker) to the wire on the blinker that we found in step 1.

That's it. I'll post the complete info including wire colors on my website when I get time. Hope this helps.

Sounds simple... I want to get clears and use SW bulbs for the front, so I don't think I'll be doing this. But it's nice to know how simple this process is. Thanks!

yippy

i remember i posted a thread bout this same exact topic a while back, but no luck
thank god you came along

by the way, it makes alot of sense for the side markers to blink with the turn signals. All the bimmerz, benz do. so you got the front orange(stock) sidemarkers to blink with the turn signals? Did you also hook up so the rear bumper side markers blink also?

Well what do i exactly have to? i have no clue when it comes to vehicles but i will attempt this project.

Did ya put the site up yet, im very anxious , since im the type of person that needs pics to get it done right.
thank you, now i won't have to pay the $63/hr this guy wanted to do it for. He said its like a 3-4 hour job.
Roger
p.s. what is a "multimeter"?

kev, not nothing fit.. pissed me off.. argh but i did rewire my lights, the rear was much easier and the front was not as easy since i had to feed the wires throught the fender hole thing. but it's easy u should do it. it's so sweeet. now they markers arent' useless.

maximazero
it might no guarranties.

So what happenes at night?

do the sidemarkers turn on with the lights and then when you use your turn signal it starts blinking?
Basically what happens in these situations:

1. headlights off turnsignal on: sidemarker blinks when the blinkers blink (right?)

2. headlights on with the turn signals off: the sidemarkers stay on?

3, headlights on with turn signal on: the sidemarker starts blinking and when the turn signal stops the sidemarker light stays on?

Thanks...can't wait to do this.

pics and instructions for the front and rear would be gr8!

if you need me to take pics of any part of the car and post them just tell me where.

I might do the fronts but not the rears because they're bluish. By reading the posts from everyone, they sound sweet. Anyone up for some rewiring at the SF meet?

Mingo, isn't it cool??

Yeah, the fronts are a little tough coz you have to feed that wire through the fender hole. Rears are really easy.

As for other questions:

Blinkers still blink. They blink with the markers alternately.

Markers blink even when the headlights are off and they stay steady when the lights are on ant turn signals aren't used.

Multimeter is used to check voltages, currents, resistances, etc. For this project, you can use a 12volt light tester instead.

No, I haven't posted it on my web site yet. I've been really busy.

Hey mingo, this doesn't really apply to this thread, but you brought up a point that I might need an answer to. I, too am preparing for my vb mod a little later. You mentioned getting your gaskets. What all do I need to have before I send my vb off to Don. Can you let me know or point me somewhere that has that info.

Thanks a lot,

Matt

Gaskets, tranny fluid (about 5 quarts), something to drain the used fluid into, brake parts cleaner (lots of these, 12 cans maybe), instructions from Don, and the recalibrated VB.

I'll go over when you get the VB from Don. Does that sound good? I'll help you out if you want.
