Clear corners

I bought a set of CustomMaxima clear corners at the Frankencar meet last Sunday and the bulbs should be coming in tomorrow, so I'd like to put them on soon. Does anybody have any tips for taking off the stock ones or putting on the clears? I've read a couple posts about this and the best thing so far is just pry them off with a small screwdriver, and make sure to use a towel or something so it doesn't scratch the paint.

Does anybody have some good tips or advice, or what NOT to do before I try this? Thanks

Seal them with silicone FIRST. You'll be sorry first time it rains otherwise.

This is one of the reasons I'm too scared to put clears on my car, the condensations and leakage.

I'll be brave enough one day to do so.

dude if you buy good ones, this is not an issue..mine from ebay have been on 3 or so months, with multiple washes, rain storms, waxes and no condensation...

I have not touched them either with silicone or the like..

Don't be scared about the leakage. I bought my fronts and rears from CutomMaxima.com. I did not follow the advice on putting the silicon on and the back clears like clockwork got condensation in them so I had to order another pair. Just go to PEP Boys and get RTV silicon sealant. Put a thin layer (thick will show) where the plastic on the lenses meet and that will do the trick. My advice would be to order LED's instead of the lights as the paint always wears off the lights. The LED's last a long time. Read the link posted above and you won't have the same problems that I had. I just tried prying the lights off with a screwdriver and cloth and cardboard and didn't note the locations that you are supposed to pry at. I created a couple deep notches in the rear. Once you use the locations and methods in the link above, it's a piece of cake. To date, I haven't put any sealant on the fronts and they don't have any condensation.

Not true...I think you just lucked out. And it's not always an immediate thing, like you said they've only been on for about 3 months. Just look at the number of posts from people who have condensation problems. You seem to be the only one who hasn't had it. And Ebay isn't a brand...you can find 3 or 4 different brands for sale there. I don't see what the big deal is...spend an extra $2 for a tube of RTV clear silicone, do it right the first time, and be done with it. My $.02.

Edit - Prodigy...here's the silicone pic that is missing from the writeup.

You think I should take it down?

Not to stray completely OT and into old territory...but you know what's funny? He got all bent out of shape about someone using his last name, and no lie it appears 20 times in his own writeup.

If you do get condensation (those that haven't put sealant on), don't just trash 'em and order another set. Shake as much water out as youcan, put it in the Oven on low heat (on an oven safe plate or something - not on the grill) and KEEP AN EYE ON IT(check every few minutes). I had to do this on one of my rears and a front before I got smart and used the silicone.

Just be patient - it'll dry it right out.

Why must you cook em before reusing them?

Can't you just wait a few days and let it dry. The Max won't look that bad driving around without any corners.

Too high of heat? (or rested on the grill?) I think I had it at 125 deg. and it was fine. Took about an hour I think (It's been a while and senility is probably setting in).

I guess you could wait but I think it might be more than a few days.
I had it back on same day.

Oh, if you had sealant on it before but it leaked, make sure you get all the old sealant off before baking.
