A wild guess would be that fuse would be located in the fuse box by the
hood release next to the driver door. Which fuse? What do you got to
loose just check them all if they are not marked in the box.

I asked which fuse it was... not where the fuse box is! And just check all of them? I'm guessing that it surely wasn't one of your ancestors that invented the wheel. Heh.

Anyway, on the drive to work this morning I also discovered that the lock/unlock button isn't functioning and when I'm no longer able to put the windows up when the engine is turned off!

SECU?

Check 10 and 13...both are 10A fuses.

My bet is 13, however if neither are blown, I'll dig further.

Hopefully, you didn't fry the SECU. Dixit knows more about that.

I think the one you are looking for is in the panel under the hood.

Hm. Okay, I checked all the damned fuses. They're all closed. Seem to be okay. Also, something to clarify, my locks are not functioning at ALL! My Autopage simply arms/disarms... but the door locks do not even move. EVEN when the car is on and engine running.

My fuse did the same thing when I installed the M17.
It blew three fuses before it finally took one. I took
the fuse out, put the bulb in and then put the fuse back
in and it worked.

On my '01, it was a 10 amp fuse. It says room lamp
on the fuse cover.

Okay, I checked it again this morning and it was blown! I've replaced the fuse with one of the spare 10A fuses and the locks still do not function.

To boot, I've also discovered that the rear window defog isn't working either!

Suggestions anyone?

Alright, let me chime in here. Hahha, Alex you know I know about this shiet....

Well it sounds like almost the same problem I had before. You are going to have to check the joint connectors and grounds at multiple locations. This is going to be a real pain cause there are quite a few of them. Im going to have to dig up all this in the FSM to show you where each one is for your room lights issue. I ended up burning up the ground on one of them. And it caused numerous other problems because there were other things attached to that ground.

Yeap, I had the same problem, I couldnt lock the doors either, the door locks only works when the car was on. Once the car wwas off, the keyless entry or the door lock button didnt work. On top of that My door open and Trunk open light were faintly lit. It was a mess, email me at dsuthar@adelphia.net to remind me tonight. I know I will forget after a few beers from happy hour.

Interesting. My locks don't work even when the engine is off OR on! Could this mean something more serious? Or am I just a paranoid ****.

I'll email you tonight.

Well maybe its that ground tap or joint connector that you friend. The more info you can give me the more I can tell you where to look at. Tell me everything you see as working and not working. Like does the fuel filler door open still without the keys in the ignition?
What about the trunk pop without the keys?
Also are your door open and trunk door open lights lit or faintly lit? What happens when you open your visor mirror, does the trunk door or door open light up on the dash?

Things like that. I know it sounds retarded, but I had ALL those problems You know I was dying.

Curious, since I know what BigDog did to his.

What watt is that bulb rated for? Did you just plug it in with the door open and the battery still connected? Any other details about what happened?

The stuff that doesn't work:
  • Dome light
  • Map light
  • All door courtesy lights
  • Rear defog light on center console (I assume rear defog doesn't work at all... not just the light)
  • Both drivers and passengers vanity mirror lights
  • Auto door lock button no longer functions. Door are not able to be locked at all. I haven't used a key to lock and unlock a door in at least 5 years!
  • 30 second delay of power to windows when engine is turned off is now non-existent even with doors closed! This is what makes it seem like a SECU problem as well eh?
  • Trunk light is dead too
I think that's everything...

Hm. I was actually installing the map light bulb when it blew. I had already put in the dome light and it was working fine. All of a sudden I heard a faint pop/snap and all lights went dead. Yeah, I believe when it happened I had the door open. Initially I had the doors closed but a friend of mine had walked over to see wtf I was fiddling with in my car. I had opened the door and continued to fiddle and then... *pop*.

Battery was still connected. Sigh, I didn't know I had to disc the damned battery to install a freaking bulb!

I am a n00b.

The faint pop noise is definetely a ground or a joint connector breaking. Man this is going to be a digging job Im gonna tell you up front. Hopefully you have digital voltmeter that you can do like a diode test on the lines and see which joint connector or ground point or line itself is bad. That is going to be your best bet. Like i said, email me at dsuthar@adelphia.net tommorow and i will remember to look into this. Is yours a 2000SE correct?

Im about 99% sure you didnt burn the SECU, so wouldnt get too worked up on that part.

But the good thing is that all the problems you are having are about all the ones i had as well.

Ok...no way that should have happened with those bulbs, but I put PIAA 198/164 wedge bulbs in mine and they got SUPER hot. Luckily, I thought to recheck them or else they would have melted sheit. Now I just have some $2 crappy bulbs from Autozone.

Alex, I completely agree with you there, something else went wrong cause I mean if anything you know the wire is good for 3times more than the fuse nissan puts on it if you want to get technical about at what point will the wire melt the insulation. But something defeintely went wrong here. Maybe the bulb triggered something else. But surely he has burned a ground point or Joint connector somewhere.
