Recharge air conditioning

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone has recharged their own air conditioning using those do-it-yourself kits on a 5th generation Maxima? If so, did it work well and how did you do it? Thank you.

If you need recharging on a 5th gen Maxima, I would suspect a leak somewhere. In that case I would take it to an A/C shop or Nissan dealer that can find and correct it. But if your'e getting around 50-60 degrees out of the registers I would just leave it alone.

I thought they made those self-chargers illegal bc they releases CFC's into the atmosphere?

go to walmart and get the recharge kit which includes the hose and a bottle of coolant. Works pretty good.

The new freon is ozone friendly and not illegal for the backyard mechanic.

How to do it

Do you have any instructions on how to do it? Where to connect the bottle hose to the engine hose? I know I am using the wrong terms but I think you get the idea. Thanks.

It has to be hooked to the low pressure side. I think the fittings are different and you won't be able to hook it up wrong. Look for the thicker of the two A/C hoses. The fittings should be easily accessable. Be careful not to put too much freon in. I beleive too much and it won't get cold. Just add little at a time and test it out. I think the whole system holds about a pound, which is one can.
