Max vs. A4

Has anyone with a 2002-2003 Max had an encounter with an Audi A4 (2002-2003)? If not, how does the Max stack up against the Audi?

My freinds wife has an A4 3.0 Auto and it's a nice car. However, my 03 SE is faster and bigger. Granted, the Audi is built well and has all wheel drive. But when you consider that she paid almost 20 grand more for that car, my Max looks better all the time. Plus, I wrote the check for the Max, I hate car payments. Being a Realtor, I need all the backseat room I can get. I don't regret my decision at all.

ya there was an A6 2.7T at the track last night with a few mods that couldnt get past 14.6 seconds or so. He was a 5 speed too... awsome launch, but the AWD starts to drag it down at the top end power. A4 will be the same story, especially stock. probly wont touch the 14s

Yeah , I've owned a few 2.7T's on the road ,(prob autos though) would love to run into one at the track- AWD cars do have slower top ends- specially the 2.7T
cause it has two small turbos(which gives it great low/mid range)
but the extra weight slows it down a bit

The S4 would eat your/our lunch. My friend at work has one and it is FAST. I was really surprised at how fast it was. But, he paid a sh$t load for it and it just is not worth it.

stock the S4s arent THAT fast. they are fast but not fast enough to OWN a 3.5 maxima. it would probably be a driver's race.

ps. they dont make S4s for the new model yet.

ya S4 is a bit out of our league, at least if we're stock. a slightly modified A4 or A6 is good competition though. incredible launchers though

Well, I can only go by my butt dyno while riding in it. At the time, I was driving a Camaro SS. And was still impressed by the acceleration (and of course the handling). It felt pretty damn fast to me for a 4-door car. You got me wondering so I looked up the stats on his 2000 model and the Max 2002.

Maxima 2002
0 - 60 mph [secs] 6.3
1/4 mile [secs at mph] 14.9 at 95.6
http://nissan.jbroadtests.com/Maxima/2002/index4.php

S4 2000

0-60 MPH 5.5 sec
1/4 Mile 14.1 sec @ 98.5 mph

On the S4s and turbo A6 2.7's dont forget,

one small ECU mod (a new code download) and these cars gain no less than fifty HP to a nice, even 300 hp...

the maxima on that page seems to be a 6spd and we all know that 6spds do not run a 14.9 quarter mile. my car (stock) runs 14.5 and others run 14.4s and 14.3s. that webpage is inaccurate.

i cant really say whether or not the S4 one is accurare but i will assume that it is.

i feel like the specs of the cars seem pretty even. that is what i based my comment on:

2002 Maxima:
Curb Weight: 3224 lbs
Horsepower: 255 hp
Torque: 246 ft-lbs
Power-to-weight: 12.6 lbs per HP
http://www.edmunds.com/used/2002/nis...nav..6.Nissan*

2000 S4:
Curb Weight: 3593 lbs
Horsepower: 250 hp
Torque: 258 ft-lbs
Power-to-weight: 14.3 lbs per HP
http://www.edmunds.com/used/2000/aud...denav..6.Audi*

the maxima has the edge according to those numbers but 1) the maxima is overrated and 2) the S4 is AWD so its pretty even as i see it.

and road tests by magazines always seem to be bias toward the popular cars. i.e. the 02 altima got much better numbers than the 02 maxima even though they are almost identical in performance just because the altima was a very popular car.

The S4 (2kis) is undoubtebly faster and will tear us a new one on the twisties!recognize-they did 14.1 on the 1/4, but you know they could give better times(as we do in our 6-speeds)
I'll take a reg WRX for $15-18K less though! The 04' S4 has very little competition-

a slightly modified 6sp maxima will be a good race for a stock S4.

once you start modding those 2.7T engines, there is no stopping, so much aftermarket support. one chip rasies the HP from 250 to 360!! just imagine what else can be done to the car.

on the highway a stock S4 is a nice competition for a 6sp max but off the line they got the AWD and max torque with the turbo pretty quickly.

MannyNJ2k2max finally said it "twisties" anybody can go fast in a straight line its all a function of money. But add in the turns and then its actually racing driver input becomes a much larger factor. Pure HP is rarely the deciding factor.

Outside of Juice, turbo, or supercharger...it seems all the engine mods for a 6SP are "slight".

I would really like to gain like 20 HP, but to be honest it seems that no one here can agree on the acutal numbers of the CAI / exhaust.

Where is our 100+ HP chip????

360 HP from 2.7 litres, we are talking about a SERIOUSLY shortened engine life.

I drove Galati's S4 (stock, not racing), fun car even in the wrong hands. When it comes to the twisties, he can hang and beat 911s, etc..all about the driver.
First time driving a 6-spd...pulls well in nearly every gear (I didn't go fat enough for 6th!)

I would race my friends modded S4 and beat him real bad all the time with my modded 3rd gen RX-7 and I would always heckle him about it, now that I sold the RX-7 and have a Maxima the tables have turned

who cares you are comparing a $25K car with a $45K car. Is it just that you have nothing more to talk about, or really don't like your cars anymore?

I guess it would be wrong for someone here to pick on/compare a Civic too, since it costs $10k less than a Maxima.
