man its basically for me a little mixture of each i guess...My bose fukd up so i replaced with an aftermarket and speakers. so, audio...check. visual, the maxima has nice looks that anyone will admit, so i'm not too anxious to add anything except that aero kit...but later. the stock ride height is high, so suspension is a good choice, performance is good enough as it is, or if you're power hungry, not too many parts could get you where you want to be.

look into
-springs/shocks,struts,/coilovers
-front strut bar
-nice rims
-02' headlights
-y-pipe
-tint
-head unit/speakers
-RADAR DETECTOR

and i'm spent.

1: Fix the wheel gap! Struts and Springs go with KYB AGX Struts and progressive springs
2: Wheels I personally have Moda R6's
3: Get something that is sticky, tires I have Dunlop SP's amazing tires come on all performance BMW sedans like the 540i M sport.
4: Intake and Y-pipe free up some power without decreasing reliabilty or gas milage
5: Your ride will already be complete so this step is up to you. Do you need some HID lights or anything that you need model based.

This is what I did and it will make your maxima perfect. Tested and approved.

Things that this newb has done to his ride:

JWT intake, Otto FSTB, Progress RSB, Smoke fronts, Cattman short shifter (which is pretty awsome), shave the trunk emblems, and most importantly, clay, wax and buff the **** out of it. I think the biggest horse power and asthetic improvement was the mirror finish from the elbow grease.

Seriouly though, any maxima with a clean set of windows and a fresh waxing is tight in my book.

Performance-oriented mods, with no particular plan in mind. But as things wear out or break, replacement has been/will be with a real performance improvement of some sort intended if it's at all possible.

1. Tires (the jury is still out on ZE512's, although they're still better in the wet after 12000 miles than the RE92's ever were)
2. Headlights (there's a minor lighting performance increase with Silverstar and Xtra Vision headlights that comes without the vandalism risk associated with HIDs)
3. Suspension (near future)
4. Cold air intake (eventually)

Can't really come up with 5 today unless I break up #3 . . . or add in the 130A alternator that I got after the standard reman replacement part was bad right out of the box.

I just bought my 2000 GLE and after doing the basics (shocks and springs, tint, fstb, etc...) I am saving just a little bit more for the PFI turbo kit!!! With a little tranny work and a decent exhaust, this should be enough to have some fun with.

I like what I read from other enthusiasts. 1) No stickers, decals, banners. Your not NASCAR, your not getting sponsored. 2) The easiest thing to do is the intake and a bolt on cat-back. An Injen cold air intake or an iceman intake is one of the best. It's easy to install also. I say a bolt-on catback because you can put it on yourself in like an hour or so. The bad thing is you might have to drill the bolts out of your cat. Heating and cooling on the bolts super torques them on. No worry though just get a couple of bolts with nuts with same thread and use those to attach new exhaust to cat. Simple.

didnt think this needed to be a new topic so im posting here, but i have researched HID lighting for 2000 maximas and i've gotten mixed findings.. i see on different sites it says 00-01 will not support HID, yet some of the cars i've viewed on here from of the members have them. so can they or can they not be installed on the 00 model?

They can be installed on the 00-01 models. You just need to purchase an 02-03 headlight wiring harness (Courtesy Nissan has it for $43.00).

Faceteous list:
1. clear corners
2. led side mirrors
3. billet grille
4. body kit
5. carbon-fiber anything

Real list:
1. Suspension: springs, struts, sway bar
2. Body: SFCs, LTB Stage 2, ES bushings
3. Exhaust: anything quiet and stainless steel to replace rusted-out OEM exhaust
4. Wheels: Strong ones for street, light ones for track. Low-key looking. no chrome. Nothing bigger than 18s.
5. Minor cosmetic mods, but not body kits, wings, etc.

From most minor in cost for a couple of bucks to major cash but major changes.
1. clear front corners.
2. polarg bulbs all around and piaa super plasma fogs to match hids.
3. chrome license plate covers with lightly tinted covers (get small frame not lg. ghetto one and although sounds cheesy really makes for a much class. look)
4. H&R drop on front for cosmetics only witch is very similar to stock ride.
5. mili miglia or 5 star style like that in 18" and tires.
6. cattman catt back for just a little sound
7. finally and hardest for me to shell the cash out for, entire stillen class. kit. hard because i have the pearl white which is hardest to match the color and most expensive color to paint, but it really looks like a more expensive car; not a car that a little kid tried to hook up with a kit. Very classy look worth every penny, with grille tech inserts in bottom.

And that's it!! in imho our cars are fast enough and by racing them and performing performance upgrades you ensure you'll not only prematurely age and shorten the life of your engine but spend even more at the pump,as if we don't spend enough as it is. A car is not an investment and only depreciates with time so it stands to reason that i want mine to look as good as possible and be around for as long as possible. She looks beautiful and is payed for so now lets see how long she'll last....got 190,000 out of my last 3rd gen, and i plan on having my 5th for even longer!!!! love these cars....

To properly mod you car and save yourself some money the list should be as follows.

1. FSTB, timing advance, gab, pedals
2. spring/shock combo, bushings, LTB, wheels/tires, wheel alignment
3. RSB (if it's still required)
4. ss brake lines, brake pads, rotors(if required); or BBK(if you got $$$$)
5. y-pipe or headers
6. decent sound system
7. everything else.

anyone who "modifies" their maxima to be a fast "sleeper" is only kidding themselves and wasting their money. Maximas are great family sedans. they are by no means "sports cars"

i'd rather wasting money on something better...appearance. i tinted, dropped, and did my I.C.E. for my pleasure in the car's appearance and sound. i'm not gonna lie to myself...i drive this car because it's a nice cruiser, not the porsche.

STFU, if putting 20s on a car is your kinda thing go buy a 84 Cutlass or Caprice and do your "crusing". Porsche's are over rated slow POS, if you wanna fast Porsche you need to look NORTH of 100K.

You're missing the point, perhaps the whole point of the Maxima. As the Nissan banner's "top shelf" offering, it's a luxury performance car. That doesn't mean that if you tweak it such that it emulates a 3-series non-M BMW that you've trashed the luxury side of the equation; with a little care in your parts choices you've only improved the performance. A 330i isn't a sports car either, and is a pretty decent family sedan as well, if at a slightly higher price point.

i'd rather [be] wasting money on <snip>...appearance.
Sounds about right, as mildly edited . . . be careful whose attention you attract up there.

i tinted, dropped, and did my I.C.E. for my pleasure in the car's appearance and sound. i'm not gonna lie to myself...i drive this car because it's a nice cruiser, not the porsche.
Has it ever crossed your mind that a car's primary purpose in life is to transport you? So it should make sense that anything that improves its functional performance is more relevant than things that interfere with its mission (e.g. tinting and poorly thought out lowering). Perhaps that is not particularly important in a 10 mile per year show car, but in just about anything else automotive it should be.

It sounds like you don't particularly like to drive, and rather than experience the various sensations that are associated with the physical operation of the vehicle you'd rather avoid/overwhelm them entirely.

late edits for clarity.
