'00 5spd or '01auto?

Which should i pick out of the two? Also, how much HP does the '00 have? Isnt it ~222? And '01? Is that 227? Thanks for any opinions.

'00 5spd :-D
especially if it's fully loaded (leather seats are so comfy :-D)

Not sure about the HP differences but I doubt it's enough to sway you... the 5-speed is nice though.
I think both '00 and '01 have similar problems TSB-wise, though someone can confirm this for me... both tend to have warped rotors (if they're stock), *can* have issues with the VIAS (variable intake/power valve system), and generally lack in low-end torque compared to other models... but they're very nice. The 5-speed can be a bit of a pain to someone who's new at stick (like me) but I'm getting the hang of it. Plus, if it's stick, it should be the SE model, which has a decent suspension setup (I fly through curves with confidence :-D)

5spd is already 15 whp faster than auto. I think 227 is for the AE and I30. Plus, you are not going to feel 5hp of engine output.

Alright- thanks for your replies. I was already leaning towards the 5spd anyways... Does anyone know which would be quicker out of the 4th gen 5spd and 00 5spd?? Thanks.

4th gen.

I would ONLY buy a 5spd VQ30. If 2K2+, either 6spd or auto will be fine with the torque of the VQ35.

Our opinions shouldn't matter all that much, it really is whether you want a 5spd or an auto

5spds will always be quicker than autos.

I have driven 5spds in other cars for a while. I bought the max as an auto cause I didn't want to shift anymore. and my 02 max goes really good without the stick shift

That's my POINT.

2K-2K1 5spd
2K-2K1 auto
2K2+:6spd or auto

I absolutely LOVE my 2k auto, so I'd reccomend that. Speed-wise, mine isnt too much slower than a 5 speed NA. The decision is yours, though.

If you do a lot of fiddling with the radio/CDs, or talking on the cell phone, an auto is the way to go. If not, the added HP to the wheels of a 5-speed vs. auto is quite noticeable. Manual transmissions also add more precise control when on the twisties. On the other hand, one of the reasons I didn't choose the 5-speed was that the Maxima just didn't FEEL like a manual transmission car to me. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone but me, but some cars just feel "one" with the stick shift...others don't.

Just food for thought.

Of course a lot of people out there have sticks

but to me the Max feels too big for a stick shift
I know thats completely illogical but whatever.

My thing is all my stick shift cars have been small with 4cyls. VW Beetle, Sentra SE-R, Chevy Chevette.

So Big cars just feel like they should have autos. I'm also of the opinion that although the Max is a sporting car, but it is not a sports car. It moves athletically, goes fast, and while going fast can accelerate like a banshee... all the while I'm sitting comfortably in my heated leather seats in my automatic climate controled interior carrying up to 4 people in maximum comfort.
