maintenance question
I have a 2003 GLE. I took it to the dealer today for an oil change and for brake judder. I have 18k miles and the dealer highly recommended the 15k mile maint. Is the 15k scheduled maint. worth the cost ($160) or would I be waisting money? They also told me the rotors were somewhat warped, so they turned them, they did not replace the pads, they said they still had 10k miles left. I am a little concerned that they did not replace the pads, I have always heard that every time the rotors are turned you should change pads. Is there any truth to this? The brakes do feel much smoother. Thanks.

It's usually good to replace the pads with a rotor resurface ( or new rotors), but good luck. It seems some people have bad luck either way. Mine has 16k and the brakes are still silky smooth.
The 15k service probably includes things you can do yourself, like a visual check of everything and a new microfilter. Get your tires rotated for $10 with a coupon, and change the oil yourself and put in MOBIL 1!

I wouldn't say "F" the dealer... I take both of my SE's to the dealer for service (although the dealer I go to has a 'preferred card' that costs $80 and gives you 12 free oil changes and 10% off parts and labor for 3 years)... you just have to be smart about it.
I changed the brake pads all around on my 2000 SE, but I accidentally introduced air into the system, so I had low, low pressure. I took it to the dealer, knowing that all I needed was for them to bleed the brakes for me. She gave me the run around about "we have to check for caliper damage" and "you should resurface the rotors" blah blah ... I said "hey, look, I told you to just bleed the brakes, so bleed them".
She came back to me and said that if I wanted the rotors turned it would be $180 a pair (!!!)... I said "oh, well, if I NEED that, I can have Midas do it for $20"... quite a difference!
The dealer does good work, you just have to be smart about WHAT work to let them do, and to shop around for other places when necessary.
And BTW, the 15K mile service isn't a bad deal... and is worth it for them to check your car and ensure everything is ok and running smooth.
