Car is getting older... Is it losing HP??
I got my 2k2 on sept 01' it now has 34,600 miles on it... I've done all scheduled maintanance and use Mobile 1 full synth, when I drive, it feels like its a bit more sluggish than at 10k miles. I know when the car gets a bit older it gets a bit worn, but I rarely race my engine. How can I help it to get its PEP back? I know 4th gen max owners with 80,000 miles and still run stock times, last time i was at the track my car was considerably slower.. ( 14.9 rather than 14.6) but it could just be track condidtions.
I'm pretty close to the build date and mileage you have on yours, i did notice it being sluggish these days. But i attribute it to the insane heat down here in Houston.
Come to think of it, i thought of the same thing last summer. But one way to check is to put the pedal to the metal while at highway speeds - the engine runs a bit cooler that way so heat soak won't be so much of a problem.

tighten your throttle cable and see if that helps. I've done it for a few people and they swear they have a completely different car.

it's gotta be the humidity and heat..I know up here in NY the humidity has been insane the last couple of days, which has DEFINITELY taken some toll on my maxima's engine...nothing for me to worry about tho...
once the cold weather comes (if you are in a state with cold weather) the engine will be peppier than ever!

Like scopium have you fuel system cleaned, and while your at it get your throttle body cleaned. Less the heat all of your pep will be back.

umm you guys do what you want...the owner's manual SPECIFICALLY states "DO NOT USE FUEL/ENGINE ADDITIVES OR IT WILL DAMAGE THE ENGINE"
well, maybe not exactly that, but something to that effect..I'll get the page # and exact context for reference.

Cleaning the throttle body yourself is no big deal. But to clean the injectors and valves you need to use something a bit stronger than you can buy at most auto part stores. This is a product that is used by many shops and I believe some dealers. B&G Products, Inc. This stuff works. I have used the BG Fuel Injection System Cleaner & BG 44K® Advanced Formula every 10-15k on my last few cars.
I totally agreed w/maximaman777 regarding the use of fuel additives and also ditto to the throttle body cleaning. While you're at it, replace all of your other fluids, power steering & brake. In addition, you should reset the CPU so that the computer can relearn your driving habbit.
I wouldn't add anything to my fuel system either. Basic maintenance and premium fuel is all you really need IMO. I just turned 60k in my car and it feels stronger now than it did when I turned 40k.
