Tire Sizes- How big can I go?

I am trying to replace the original stock tires -- Toyo AO5s -- 215/55/16 with something wider and a bit taller on my 2001 GLE.

Does anyone know if a 245/50/16 will fit without scraping inside the wheel well, What about a 235/55/16, a 235/50/16 or a 225/55/16??

I have 16" wheels that are 6.5" wide and do not want to buy new wheels.

Have been looking at the ContiExtreme Contact 225/55/16,
the Dunlop P5000 235/50/16, the Falken Ziex-512 in a 235/55/16 and a 245/50/16. The Falken 245 will fit on a 6.5" rim according to the company.

I have a set of the ziex-512 on my 4th gen. they are great tires at a great price. so far I have no complaints after about 7k miles. They are 100 times better than the 502's. I had them before and they got slashed the day before I was gonna take them back after the 30 day test ride. They had no wet grip. The 512's are awesome. They seem a little narrower than most though. I had firestones before these and they were at least an inch wider for the same size tire.
Youll like em...oh wait. I think the 55 profile is a 30k tire. Mine are 60's and they guarantee 60k on them. check their web site

I have 235 X 40 x18 and have never scraped. Tire Rack says that going to a 245 ( only a 1/4 inch wider ) and you are probably going to see some scraping. I'm good with the 235's though. I love these Bridgestone S03's too by the way. But I also need to move a lot of water out of the road in Florida. But no prob with dry traction either
