I'm considering a deal tommorrow for a 2k2, this would be my first Max. The 6 speed is what I covet but difficult to find around here. It looks like it will be an auto for me, maybe
well I like a 6 spd, but my wife cant drive one
I traded in my 98 SE 5-speed for a 2003 SE auto so that my wife could drive it. I miss the stick. (but I love the extra grunt)
The 2003 auto is a great car but the 6-speed would definately be more fun to drive.
I was hesitant at 1st at getting a 6 spd, but after having it for 5 months, I love it. Put it this way, I don't know of a single person on the org who has regretted getting a 6 spd, but plenty who had wish they waited to find a 6-spd a instead of an auto. The choice it yours.

AusFlt, despite the differences - I don't think you will regret buying either one.
Keep in mind that if you cannot find a 6-spd now and wait for one, depending on how long it takes you will most likely end up getting a higher mileage car. If you prefer lower mileage, more warranty remaining and cannot find a 6-spd, go for a Auto then. Autos are plenty and not hard to find. There are atleast four 2k2-2k3 autos at my local dealership.
Its all a question of preferance. I've never had a powerful stick shift car so I don't know drivability issues. I do know that everytime I had a stick shift I loved it for a while.... then grew tired of it in about 2 years. I bought an auto b.c I didn't wanna shift. I bought the Maxima b.c I wanted to go fast and not have to shift.
for me the Auto is plenty fast and its fun. this stick is always more driver involvement and more fun "when you wanna have fun" and less fun "most of the rest of the time"

It is a matter of preference, but it also depends on how much of your driving is on city streets versus highways. I do a lot of city driving
and it gets to be a pain some times. Sure, is fun when you open it up sometimes but how much of that driving are you going to do? I'm lucky that
I still have my '97 auto so I can take brake from shifting in city traffic sometimes.
