New Optima Battery... Eeeeew!

Don't ya just hate misleading subject lines? Actually my new red top looks good... it's what's around it that looks like crap. Fist, the good picture:

Now the ugly:

I knew I was going to have to replace the crusty old tie down but man, look at that battery tray. Honestly, this photo doesn't do that justice. There's stuff peeling, rust, and general all around crustyness going on there. The Optima is smaller than the stock battery so all this stuff becomes instantly visible. Ah, well... more work.

BTW, I'm going to paint the tie down temporarily until Wild ***** finishes his new tie down design.

next time you wash your car, take some baking soda and mix it with some water then wash all around the battery and everything. It will prevent the corrosion as baking soda neutralizes the acids. Then simply wash down with a hose. You can even just put the baking soda mixture in a spray bottle.

I didn't think they still made batteries that you had to add water to until I bought my Maxima. You'd think they put a modern maintenance free battery in a car like that.

I actually had it like that too for a while Toastermax. Its just a scoop that feeds air into engine. It wont harm, if any, it might help..

My Dad has an Optima, he thinks that Kia is the next Honda (at least he didn't insult Nissan). He is letting his Laser RS Turbo sit in disrepair. I'm so ashame.

Like kloogy said, it may direct cooler air in the direction of the new intake... that plus it'd leave a big ole hole in the engine compartment
