Adding a Bose System

G'day, I am looking at adding a bose system to a 2002 SE I was wondering if someone has done this?, if so was it wearth it?

It would be a pain in the ***... You would need to buy every component (head unit, amp, speakers). The speakers are special-resistance to match the amp. A similar sounding system would not be too expensive.

Also, do the non-Bose Maximas have the tweeter inserts in the A-pillars? All the Max's I've seen have Bose so I don't know that one.

Don't add a Bose system. There are far better brands out there for the money.

Yes, non bose maximas still have the tweeters in the A pillars. I just added an amp and sub to the stock non bose stereo in my 2003 SE. Its not most flashy thing you've ever seen, but it sounds good and gets the job done.

you can still use the steering controls even with an aftermarket HU. the unit costs about $80 USD (www.crutchfield.com).

go to the audio forum... you will get great info there. a search would be verrrrrrrrry helpful.

in addition, the bose is terrible for the $. get aftermarket and spend a similar amount of $. just do not get the bose!

It is cost prohibitive to put bose in afterwards. the cost of the parts are insane. I'm sure a good audio store can help you do what you want with a system. As someone who has never delt with an audio shop I'm not 100% on this.... but I did have a bose in my last car.... 1 speaker and 1 amp went out. it was far cheaper to rip the whole sys out and put in aftermarket stuff. On top of that.. I think the aftermarket stuff sounded As good or better.

I agree with everything else said here--the Bose system royally sucks, short of the headunit. (if you're not an MP3 freak like me who prefers his Alpine MP3-CD headunit)

Bose was good 15 years ago. They're just living off an old image. Their stuff is overpriced and easily outdone by competitors.

Go into a high-end home audio store and ask them why they don't carry Bose.

G'day

I wana thank you all for the posts, I realy apreciate it
I will look into a Alpine head unit and see what I can do about keeping the controls on the steering wheel,

I went to a Audio store here and I was told I was unable to use them but I will see if there is a kit or something,

thanks again for your time, all!!!
