At what rpms do u shift (to save gas?)

Had my car for a week now. And i think i get fair gas milage considering i was driving it retty hard, i got 290 miles, and i floored it a lot....anywho, now im trying to be conservative and i try to keep the rpms down and i shift when it goes up to 2.5, was just wondering when u guys shift and what kinda milage u guys get depending on when u switch and what gear you are in.

p.s i did a search on this and didnt find anyhting

In the city i try to keep it at or under 2k. But when absolutely necessary (E.g. highway and such) i do my best to keep it under 3k (2.5k if possible).

Of course, if i sense a dangerous situation i won't hesitate to go WOT if needed.

Since most of my commute is free of stop and go traffic, and I like to enjoy the car...I have to say 3500+. I figure the economy of driving 20 miles of a 25 mile commute at highway speeds offsets the cost of fuel when shifts are needed.

Just no need to tach more than 2500 rpm in town. I'll run into the car in front of me if I rev it quick so I just putt along.

I'll run in 6th @ 45mph and coast when ever possible. 350mi per tank in summer with air on all the time, 90% city. I usually get 22 to 24 mpg on 15 to 16 gallons. I also do a few WOT runs per tank.

That's pretty good considering it's mostly city. Though i can get rather excellent mileage on the highway, city-driving is almost the exact opposite

I drove down to Tampa last Thanksgiving 540mi each way all hwy. When I stopped the 1st time I went about 40 miles after the light went on. 457mi, it only took 16.3 gallons, I was running 75-85mph.
I topped off before I left on the way back and slowed down to 70-80. I stopped at 493mi and it took 16.7 gallons. I know if I run at 70-75 and hold it there with very little up hill it will get over 30mpg and +500mi on a tank.

Although don't get me wrong I've had some weekends that I've had some fun and only got 270mi out of the same 16 gallons.

Screw gas. I drive it like I stole it. I am still intoxicated by the sound of my Frankencar and love to hear it growl at 5K RPM

I accelerate slowly and shift at 3500 no matter what... If I don't get to 3500, I stay in that gear, so if I only get to 3300 rpms in whatever gear im in, I stay in that gear... That's the best gas mileage for me, although my car is slightly different... the turbo is slightly spooled when I'm driving like this so it gives me WAYYYYYYYYYY better gas mileage than when I didn't have the turbo... On the interstate doing 80-85 mph I've calculated around 30mpg.
