raced a 350 z today

I was at a red light and a 350 z pulls up music cranked and the driver around 30 years old looks over at me with a race face, Its on i thought, ill give it a try althought iam totaly stock except for bulbs and tint. The light turns green,I give her the juice we both had very little wheel spin (I have a 6 spd 2003) we were dead even threw first gear then we change at the same time he pulls half a car on me then 3rd gear he pulls another half a car but thats it until he gave up at 100mph i was right on his rear bumper, we shut it down and he gives me the thumbs up, Iam thinking if i had cai, pulley,y pipe i would of taken him, iam not to impressed with the z i thought it would walk away from me. it was that blue color and it looked hot he had it tinted and nice custom rims, chick magnet his plate said BVRBOX (beaver box)

That is very hard to believe.....Unless you have driven one..As I have...I most certainly believe you....I was very sad after my 350 ride...I was wondering where they were hiding all of the extra ponies...

Way to go!

I still would like to have one....just can't fit 2 kids and a wife in it

not too flame, but IMO even with intake or no mods and you were very good at shifting the 6 speed, you could've taken him from the line...

Re: raced a 350 z today

I agree, The new Z is not too impressive. I've crushed many of them with my M3. Not an exact challenge but the driver wanted some.

More of a reason to get one. They do win in the looks dept though. Im sure they handle a little better too.

I would certainly expect it to.
According to "useless" mag specs, your M3 does 0-60mph in 4.7, while the Z does it in 5.4.

So what's next after the M3?

Amongst my favorites: AWD, 6-speeds, +300 hp V8, and Audi luxury. Good luck!

I agree with you on this. I test drove a 6 speed the other day and I wasn't too impressed. Don't get me wrong, it was fast but not as fast as I thought it would be. I think any 6 speed Max would be able to hang with it or even beat it.

depends and your opinion
Take a look at the 350z from the back
it looks like a morph of the new Bettle and Audi TT
I think they are ugly, but just a few style changes and it could be awesome

You guys are funny.....The Z is a quicker car given equal drivers. Yes a 6 speed max can beat a few drivers in z's but from what I have seen the Z traps a few mph's faster and maybe .4 faster in the 1/4 on average. The guys at the track are usualy more serious than the average person on the street so yes... its possible to beat one, but don't kid yourself the Z is quicker.

A properly driven 350z 6spd will trap b/t 101-102 in good conditions. A 6spd maxima will trap maybe 98-99 in perfect conditions. The only reason the maxima feels quicker is b/c of the immediate torque off the line. The 350z has a smoother powerband and will walk a 6spd maxima especially from a roll 3rd gear on. Don't believe me ask briguymax and nealoc I believe they have had a few runs.

Well bud the Z isnt lighter its actually heavier than the 03 Manual Max. The 350Z manual curb weight is 3363 and the 03 Max manual is 3220 so its about 140 something pounds heavier. I have both and yes the Max will give the 350 a run from 0-80ish, after the 350 Pulls a little harder due to better gearing and lowere drag. So any guys with 02/03's down low you arent to far off performance wise but up high 80+ its 350.

I think it is beautiful....but it does have those angles when viewong from the rear that look a bit funny.

I am sure that most people here could afford a Z...they really are inexpensive, I would probably have one if I did not already have a 2 seater that I get to drive about 1-200 miles per year as it is. For the money..it is the best bang for the buck as far as all around performance and innovative style goes...Unless you get the fully loaded version..it is over priced..and the bang factor goes down.

On a side note....I was checking out the New mini-van....Is Nissan MAD? Loaded....this thing tops out at over 38K. The interior made my altima look like a Roles.....I think I'll go with the fully loaded odessy for about 7K less and a resale value that won't make you ill.

Sorry...don't know where that came from

One thing I must say is that the Z's with body kits and rims make the car look real nice. Anyone see the vielside(sp?) kit?

Good deal dog, you beat that beaver box. I raced a 240SX turbo and he beat me by two car lengths last weekend.

aside from all this racing stuff, the maxima beats the 350z in practicality and looks, in my humble opinion.
The 350Z looks like a toy to me... just my opinion. If it can perform near as well, then chalk that off for our max.

G35 is the classiest way to go I think, the coupe is to die for, hot car.

You are kidding Right .The 350Z is one hot looking car a real head turner. You can not compare the 350Z a sports car , to a max

Sure I can, I like it better : ]
The 350Z is a sports car? OK, my max is a sedan. I like it better in style, fit and finish. When did I say the max was a sports car?

Anyways, for the difference in money, I think you get alot more out of a max, including practicality, leg room, and similar performance (Less RWD, yes what makes the ultimate difference). I have a full suspension on my max and it handles wonderful. Is it a sports car, no. Should I have to own a sports car? No.

If I were to own a sports car, or have to spend sports car insurance, I would own something that would put a 350Z to shame anyways. There are a plethera of max's on the org that will put a 350z to shame.

Anyways did you notice I preferred the G35 coupe? They are practically the same car (the 350Z is the comparison, to clarify for you), and I happen to like the styling better. Anyways, it's good to have an opinion, don't put mine down, thank you.

First off you didn't say it was a sports car I did .
Second insurance is cheaper ,why more safety features
Third as far as performance.Sure a modded max can take a stock 350Z on straight road, on a road with a lot of bends and turns in the road ,the Z rules
AS far as mods there is a lot more high performance parts for the 350Z then the max
Some people on the board beat a stock 350Z and are so proud of them self's, when in fact the Z also can be modded, then they will lose.
Not that it matters that much speed is not everything. No matter what car you own if you like that car that is what counts , and dude there is nothing wrong with option. If everyone had the same option it would be pretty boring world

I had a chance to checkout the 2K4 Quest when I brought my Y2K Quest SE to the dealer for servicing. I can say that its MUCH nicer than any previous Quest. (I have a Y2K Quest and had a 96 Mercury Villager.) But you're SOOOOO right about the pricetag; I've only seen the S ($29k) and SE ($35k) models, so I totally believe about the $38k (probably SL model). (My loaded Y2k SE only stickerd @ $26.6k and I had no problem negotiating it down to $23.5k)

In that price range, I'd definitely consider the Odyssey or Sienna first; quality and resale value are qualities I cant overlook.

Peace.

Just FYI, USAA, 2k max -> G35C = +175 per 6 mo.

For a 3 year newer/10K+ car, that seems reasonable.

The 350Z touring model with vehicle dynamic control, three air bags per side = 62.40 cheaper for insurance, per year
