Well the only solution is to replace them and if you are out of the warranty like me you might want to call either DAVEB or take a look at autozone http://www1.autozone.com/servlet/UiB...OIL&PageSync=7

Waaay cheaper alternatives (dealer wants 95-100 bucks each autozone is 49.99 each)

 

Make sure it's the updated coils (different part #) than the originals. The originals had mega problems.

 

thats a great find. i have not had any problems with mine yet and im hoping i dont but its good to know there is an alternative. i also noticed the company that makes the coils makes a MAF for the 2k-2k1 as well but its not available.

i got the same message but it was just a timed out response from when 00maxi copied the link. i just entered a 01 max and looked up engine management.

 

Yeah it did expire just go to Shopping then Starting, Charging & Tune up

 

part #s for front coils C1266 and rear coils are C1267

I just ordered mine through autozone too. Installation is plenty easy and $49 a piece ain't all that bad.

 

I ordered mine from Dave last week. $50.something each -- for about the same price I felt better buying the nissan part.

 

ive read alot of what you guys have said about the ignition coils, but so far it seems the major indication of the problem is the ses light going on and then getting the code... should i look for something else weird?

 

I have the symptoms, cold engine, 1500-2500rpm bumpy acceleration, but I have never ever had an SES light come on. I always thought it might have been a clutch thing, but I'm pretty sure its a bad coil or two.

Anyone else have the coil problem without the SES light?

 

Yes. I never had an SES for my coils when they were shot. Try going up-hill fairly steep at half throttle, it should lag and ping like crazy. Peace_

 

Mine's a tad shady on a cold engine (feels like it might have some very mild misfire)... clears up when it's warm though... is that the classic symptoms of coils starting to fail?

I have that same issue. A liitle stutter down low when the engine is cold. Hard to tell if its motor or clutch. It *almost* feels like bad gas, but it goes away as soon as it gets warm. $50 a coil eh? Im thinking I will buy one front and one rear and then test each cylinder to try and track it down.

 

Have the stutter down low when its cold. I would be very curious to see if the "experts" indicate this is a premature failure of the coils.

 

Bear in mind though, <3600RPM with coolant temperature less than 130F on Cali-spec 2K and all 2K1+ the Swirl Control valve closes, and opens at 3600-ish, so it might just be that...

 

If that is the case, then I assume everyone would be experiencing this? Any 2k-2k1 cali spec cars that have had the coils replaced still experience the issue?

 

One month has passed without the "stuttering" of a bad coil, and today, to my suprise, it finally happens it again. Just when i think everything is fine with the car (with the exception of annoying squeaky breaks), I crank the car and it vibrates HARD; this time, the SES light comes on immediately, unlike last time when it came on 2-3 days later. Fortunately, the dealer i purchased the car from located a coil for cylinder 3 and is shipping it to me overnight, free of charge. I've been driving with misfiring for a month and a half now and as far as coils go, EVERYONE is out of stock, and I refuse to pay Nissan for their service, even did I came close to purchasing the coil from Nissan for 79.00 and installing it myself versus paying the rediculous labor rate. Yes, I've already signed the petition, and I hope something comes of it. A technicial at Autozone told me to get TV stations involved with the situation, and I'm VERY close to calling "5 On Your Side" and have them insist Maxima owners experiencing "Bad Coils". The problem is very annoying and I hope nothing else goes wrong with the car after installing the coil. I'm having the fuel injectors cleaned today as well. You know, since I've had the car, on average, I've gone about a week without a problem. 2000 Maxima owners, at what point were you done fixing the minor headaches?
